I think there is only 1 audio bootleg from this leg circulating.  I gather shows were cancelled due to poor ticket sales so who knows how many shows there actually were...

I guess video wasn't as developed as today, no smartphones, and I think most of the Australian shows that TOOK place had probably pretty small audiences compared to other shows in Europe or the US. So less people, less chance of having tapers among them.

A nice theory.
I believe, Australia 1986 had many successfull concerts.
I guess the 1991 OES tour was not as the one in 1986

There was a Vox magazine interview from 1992 where Ed reluctantly admitted that they had cancelled shows and lost money in Oz. I scanned it and uploaded it years ago, maybe someone still has it. :)

That is interesting to know. When I made the list of all the OES tour concerts, it was (and still is) a mystery which shows were actually played in Australia. See also here: http://oneverybootleg.nl/tourdates_1991_1992.htm

Strange that DS was immense popular in Australia back in 1986 and had to cancel shows in 1991. If that Vox interview is still available somewhere,  I would be interested to read it!

Ah, ok. I have that magazine and found it again. Ed says that they had to cancel shows because ticket prices were pretty high due to the promotors and venues wanting a lot of money. He said that they played 85% of the planned Australian concerts. Still a mystery to me which ones actually took place, I wonder if the tour itinerary is 100% correct if they were struggling out there and maybe they made some last minute changes after the itineraries were printed. The interview mentions also that the USA tour wasn't a real success financial wise. Europe was a succes though.

according to wikipedia (I know not the most reliable source)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_Every_Street_Tour

They didn't play adelaide and perth like the tour book mentions. When bands come to australia It's somewhat common for them to skip the west coast due to the cost it takes to get there across the country from sydney/melbourne. Either that or they find out once over here that because their ticket sales weren't so great over east they'll make a big loss if they make the trip across the country to get to perth/adelaide etc.

Strange though indeed since the BIA tour was extremely successful!

We had a big economic downturn in Oz in the early 1990's so the tour struggled to make ends meet.
Dire Straits did play Adelaide but the venue was changed from Football Park to the Adelaide Entertainment Center.
I had the set list written down somewhere back then. Not sure where I left it, but I remember that it was a great show!!
