As somebody said, awesome songwriter and ahead of his time but I don’t like him as a guitarist. Too much pyrotechnics and juggling, not my cup of tea. He was also very erratic for someone with his fame. In my opinion SRV did everything Hendrix did only that he did it much better.

Same happened after Senna passed away, a young hero dying at his peak is the key to immortality and worshiping. You’re born “knowing” that Hendrix is the greatest guitarist ever and Senna the best driver of all time. It’s printed in our brains even before we know what guitars and cars are. I never let it cloud my judgement though.

SRV was an alien but playing slide guitar, at least based on the two songs I heard, he was pretty average.

Regarding Hendrix, extremely overrated as a guitarist imho.

Even Mark Knopfer overrated Hendrix apparently...

I don’t remember hearing that but even if he did that’s just his opinion. Mark is a liberal and I’m a right-winger, we probably disagree on most things in life lol

Jbeant, I hate to say it, but you have no ear for music if you maintain that the slide playing is poor quality. And no, MK would not bring in someone to play “quality” slide on his albums. He’s a pro. Never in 40 years have I heard poor quality playing on a MK/DS record. Never.

What does it matter? The best slide guitarplayer that so far has ever walked the planet is Derek Trucks. And he probably already was that at the age of 13. Nor Mark, nor SRV come even close...

Derek at the age of 13:

And the Derek Trucks solo everyone should have listened to in his live:

Like his playing, not his sound on this song though.

Yes, my ex-girlfriend’s brother who happens to be a huge fan showed me a lot of stuff. I actually like many of his songs. It’s not that I think he was not one of the best, I just don’t think he was that awesome as a guitar player, above everyone else like a god.

And back to the topic. I wonder how many songs will be on the new album. I dream about the album cover as far as The Ragpicker's Dream or Tracker :)

Bob has not written anything for 6 years. I know, he does not have to write anymore. Mark has 20 new songs for each album.

Bob has been touring uninterruptedly from so long that I don't remember... MK hasn't toured since three years ago and it doesn't look he will do it until next year.

To compare pros and cons of any artist versus Mk is a very easy game.

I'm not talking about comparing. However, the fact that Mark does not leave the studio gives me much joy :)
