Somehow I have the feeling the next album will be a less folkie album, when I look at the pictures of the 2017 studio diary. Many synths/keys and alot of electric guitars (gibsons & strats).

http://guyfletcher.co.uk/studio-diary-2017/

Especially the Synths are unusual, you are absolutely right. I also hope for something that maybe gives more room for the "new old" Les Paul. Stuff like Don't You Get It, Gravy Train, Vic and Ray, Silvertown Blues, Sucker Row, Long Highway ...

LE

LE, I know that you meant the guitar/song style/sound in general, and not the exact guitar used, but just for info :

- Gravy Train : Pensa-Shur MKI
- Vic and Ray : black Pensa
- Sucker row : : Sig Strat (not sure)

3 other songs are indeed the LP (58 or 59, difficult to say)

 :)

I don't see that much more guitars than on previous albums-diaries ?
The pic with Glenn show 3 LP and a strat, nothing exceptional imho

Maybe a little bit more keys than usual, but nothing that gives clues imho

I miss that sound too! It's about the overdrive and the sustain plus a bit of reverb I think. I asked Guy about it a few years ago, Mark using less and less effects, and he confirmed it. I like this new sound, sometimes all you need is a Strat or a LP through a good amp, but I like that vivid sound as well.

Mk usually says songs are the king.

But who write the songs?

At his age he looks more comfortable with clean sounds.

That's exactly what LE said. He's in the hopes that there will be songs that will ask for that kind of setup and sound. Mark won't use it if it doesn't suit the tune.

... the tunes that he writes...

... And he discard many of the tunes he writes and choose what he feel are the best...

... Which are perfect for clean sounds, flutes and pipes...

Actually LP guitars have natural distortion, which I like a lot.

;)

My hopes are in the fact that the kings ask for percussion ;)

That's because of the humbucking pickups whereas Strats usually have single coils. But I was actually talking about the sax which would probably be replaced with guess what lol

I could have mentioned Sands Of Nevada or Speedway the same. What I love is loud, fat or crystal clear guitar sound, Paula, Strat, whatever, laid over a nice synth "carpet" so to say.. Not that cheap sound from Beryl but that symphonic style from Private Investigations or the Man's Too Strong... the last seconds of this song, pure bliss ..

I wonder if we will get an album with a full set, or there will be a bonus disc with additional songs  :think
