if the new album is named "cullercoats", then he MUST play TOL again on the next tour ;)  ;D

Well, you never know.  He was fed up with TR during the last tour to the point he dropped it from the set...

I have a naive hope that next year the record company will re-issue the DS back catalogue with special editions with bonus material, as it will mark the 40th anniversary of the first DS release, but, as I say, it's a naive hope.  :hmm

For the 20th anniversary, the sultans of swing comp was released and it contained bonus material from 96 tour

For the 30th anniversay, nothing has been released, but Mark was on tour

I would love to have same hope as you, but in 98, Ed was still there, and you can see that after his departure bonus material from previous years hasn't been released.
Well, The PI comp in 2005 contained few more bars in STP and a "new" song (ATRR) that has been released few months later.....what a big deal ! :smack
Ok you will say that the privateering box set contained reherseal stuff...but not really gems

so if you look at 1998 and 2008, I don't see why in 2018 would suddendly come those special editions we all are waiting for....but I (really) hope I'm wrong

Well, a "deluxe" edition of their debut album including SOS single version, Let's Boogie Around plus unreleased material from the Hope and Anchor gig, the whole pathway demo. I know I am dreaming

Yes i would love to have this !!! :P :P :P :P
but at least, we already know these recordings

far more "unreleased" would be a deluxe edition of Communique with the entire album in demo versions ! THAT would be a total NEW unreleased material, because we never heard this, apart WDYTYG

I am very curious what will be the answer  :)

bombur:

"Hi Doc – hope all good and the musicality is flowing. Coming to the end of the year – any chance of any 'news' before 2018 is heralded in? Just asking"

When I read that Richard Bennett would be recording again with MK, I don't know why I thought that it might be in the January sessions that Guy mentioned us, or at least that in January he would upload a new diary entry, and I read again Bennett's words and it looks like he will be playing with MK perhaps right now, perhaps very soon, but in December at last...

I’ll also be recording with Mark Knopfler and really looking forward to that.  Some other odds and ends already coming in for sessions so I plan to keep busy through the autumn and winter months   And then… the holidays.

That's good news because it means that recording sessions are quite advanced. If in december Richard had travelled and recorded his parts it means that early 2018 they could also record the folkies, or maybe the folkies would be in that sessions this winter, and have the record quite advanced early 2018...

I have the impression they will take months mixing it and wouldn't be surprised if some retakes take place during the process. They seem to be working on this one like never done before, either polishing a true diamond or fixing a lot of stuff. Or maybe both. Perhaps just drinking too much tea. I don't know, at this point I just want a deadline and then a good album.

The problem is MK needs to announce the tour and album at least +/- 6 months before the first concert and release of the album. I don't understand the whole thing: in 2015 the album was released on March 16. In september 2014 there was an announcement. Now it is middle november 2018 and there is nothing! So, what the hell are they doing?

"....well, today we had been recording a screamin' 10 minute guitar solo, but in the end decided that the song is the boss and replaced that track with flutes...."
And she's sitting in her Lusso, in the early morning sun.
