Is this another incarnation of the Dire Straits name?  DS Legends? The Dire Straits Experience?  Is this outing going to be called David Straits?  I can see the fans benefit to commemorate the 40th anniversary, but I just cant see MK fronting the stage to lead the "Dire Straits Rock and Roll Band" anytime soon?!

It is David Knopfler celebrating the 40th anniversary of HIS career that includes the early years of Dire Straits.

I don´t see MK doing something like that anyway.

From Guy´s forum:

Question:
A hot or cold kind of question…
This project, is something that MK has been asked to do by someone else, like when a film director asks him to compose the film score?
 Hot? Cold?

Answer:
Yes and no

Yes to "is something that MK has been asked to do by someone else"? or to "Hot"?

No to "like when a film director asks him to compose the film score"? or to "Cold"?

If it´s YES to HOT and NO to COLD, the project is a film, LOL

If it´s YES to something he´s been asked to do, and NO to film score, mmm, interesting... I bet for a documentary or a play, that would explain why there won´t be live dates...

I still think that here is the key to what MK is doing, together with this recent Guy´s answer:

It's certainly not a PR stunt, just a project agreement / obligation.

And I´m quite sure that is going to be something that we need to have faith on it... like when we say that this or that MK record need to grow on us... I mean, it´s going to be something different from what we expect from MK but he found it interesting, but it´s going to be "strange" to us and we would have to let it grow on us and accept what it is...

How strange?

I would bet for:

A/A series of documentaries for any tv channel (itv, bbc, sky) about, let´s say, History, Astronomy or something like that
B/ A musical or music for a play

That Italian interview stated new mk album in 2017. Was that a real interview?

So it seems the Dire Straits name is (ab)used for marketing purposes.
It's true that is odd that MK mentions his brother David at all, and if you believe that interview, MK talks briefly about David, so, I don´t know if we can believe that is a true interview...

But nevertheless David WILL do the 40th anniversary tour, so seems like they talk not only on weddings and funerals.

Hey, don't forget your hat.

Those three dates and the size and occasions show exactly what relevance DK and AC have...
Almost sad to read that David Knopfler has reached this level...

These are the remaining dates. DK already played many dates with sold outs of this tour:

https://knopfler.com/tour_dates.html

DS name abused for marketing purposes? yes, even promoters used for years and years the DS name when announcing MK to ensure more public goes to the concerts...

As far it doesn´t imply any lie, is ok for me. DK was a DS founder, so its true, Alan Clark played on DS, so it's true, and DK plays (always did...) early DS songs (bernadette, whats the matter, wild west end...) from his era, so, it´s true as well...

There are only three concerts advertised with the six piece band and AC  as part of the 40th Anniversary Tour, the rest are David's usual concerts as I see it.

David Knopfler is always the wrong topic.

LE

Specially if you don´t like his music. To me, anything related in any way to DS, is a nice topic :-P

Being back to topic:

Guy didn't update his forum in a week, I hope that means they are working hard and we have an announcement soon  ;D

I can't see that, the last answer is from 2nd of May. But no way! Guy might as well just say "new project exists, period".

The length of time this is taking it could be Mark Knopfler at 100 album/tour 2049.  With the age his audience will be they'll be issuing tickets in large print by then!
