Bangin' on the...Piano...like a chimpanzee
« on: April 02, 2009, 12:29:37 AM »
Hi all!

Even if I am quite everyday here, I do not really write much, I prefer to read...
Anyway, this time I'm making an exception  :)
As many of you already know I have started to upload on YouTube my DS and MK covers played on Piano.
It is a different way of listening the songs that everyone knows, as I also play guitar solos on the Piano. I have made arrangements and Piano transcription by myself and for those who need help there is the link in each video to download the scores of what I play.

Here is the video list (I do not embed them all or this post will be huge, but if you want I will edit it):
1) Tunnel Of Love
 c1nFavgSYZU

2) Telegraph Road
 bc18RbZ0beM

3) Going Home

4) Love Over Gold

5) Hand In Hand

6) You And Your Friend

7) Why Worry

8 ) Your Latest Trick

9) A Love Idea

And the last one uploaded few days ago:
10) Private Investigations
 U9KicDJMCUo

Complete playlist is here:

Comments are welcome. Pianists who need help just need to ask.

Cheers

I've watched these videos and listened several times to the songs.   Satin Beaus is a beautiful arranger and pianist.  You'll really be pleased with what he can do.   His interpretations give a whole different beauty to MK's music.  :D
Sorry, G, I forgot to answer your email about the name. . . . .  :-X
But a spoonful of forgiveness
Goes a long, long way
And we all should do our best
To get along

Beautifully played.  Do you happen to have R & J ?  Just love to hear it play on the piano.

First of all thanks for your comments, I am also glad to see that in this thread the male to female ratio is 1 to 4  :D

Beautiful and easy to play, at the moment I'm working on songs of the first two albums (I haven't recorded any at the moment) R&J will follow. I will write in this thread the updates...

Hmm, the man with you in your avatar photo?  :)

satinbeaus, Make it 5:1 or even 1:5, they are really beautifully played!   :D

PS My husband thinks you are absolutely magic, but you make him depressed, because he will never ever reach your standard of playing!  :(

Look out Fletch is all i can say!  :)
A great little pinkie you have too Satin. Used to some good effect.

Do you do commissions? (preferably at very good rates to fellow Knopflerites) I write songs and have some great melodies and progressions but am absolutely useless at arrangements and to me they are the makings of a song. Unless of course one is happy to play and sound forever like Dylan of the 60s for example :)

A good arrangement can be the difference between a song/album going platinum or not achieving a single sale.

Ooops Val, you are right, the ratio was 1 to 4, I have edited the post sorry  ;)
Your husband can download the PDFs that I have made and eventually simplify them. Some songs as "A Love Idea", "Why Worry" or "Hand in Hand" and even the first part of "Tunnel of Love" are not really complicate.

Simon, everything for free here (unless you ask me to help you transcribing a Piano Concerto!), don't hesitate to ask.

Cheers

How beautiful that song sounds on piano. No chimpanzees here; just talent.  I will listen again and again.  Had a wonderful dream about Mark and the band last night..the piano piece just brought it all back.  Onward to 2010!

Satinbeaus -- your playing and the arrangements are fantastic.  Thank you for sharing the music.  I got a piano keyboard for Christmas and I've been struggling to play.  I took lessons for several years when I was young, and I thought it would come back to me, but I am having a hard time with the pieces I'm trying to play.  MK's music inspires me and will motivate me to practice, but I'm sure your arrangements will be too complex for me.  I will try to simplify them.  Your beautiful playing has inspired me so I'll keep plugging away.  If you happen to have any simple arrangements that you could post, it would be much appreciated.  Or perhaps you know of a website I might look into to download music.  Thanks again, Joan
It's hard sometimes but pretty much it's alright

@ joanzimm

I try to make all by myself, sometimes I check what other play but I try to mix bass, guitar, piano etc. with my 2 hands, so the final record is something different from a standard piano play. This is the reason why sometimes it seems to be complex. Anyway the PDFs I have made come from a Finale Music file, that I have written note by note.
That means that if you want a simplified version just tell me where, or which bars I have to simplify; I just need to make click and click and the notes are gone from the staff.
In some files there are also empty bars especially when I improvise something, for example in "Your Latest Trick" I haven't written all the melody as it can be played by ear and/or improvised. Sometimes I have just written raw notes for the solo ("Tunnel of Love"), just as short sentences on a block note to be used for practising.
Anyway I am here if you need help.

Cheers

Absolutely fantastic satinbeaus ,I could sit down & listen to that all night.

When we were young my dad had a piano in the house - God knows where he got it as neither my mom or dad have a note between them - but I remember we used to try & play the music from the coca cola advert on the tv ::) ::)I 'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony ..................................... we never quiet mastered it though :-[ :-[
