I agree with jbaent in mid, because we are fans and listening Sultans is always a pleasure, but we are fans with ears.
For me at the RAH he played very well, in Milano the final part of the song was a disaster: too slow, too mistakes and no flow of execution.
I don't agree with jbaent in one point: the Great Master of every time, need practice to play Sultans?
But in the other side:
- if a friend asks you "give me the best SOS live version", who of you would reccomend one of the KTGCtour version?

If I had to choose the best SOS of all time, then, no I wouldn't choose one from KTGC, I would probably choose Basel '92 or perhaps A Night in London, but certainly there were very good renditions on the KTGC tour, just as there were not so good ones on previous tours like STP and Shangri-La. 

It doesn't seem to have anything to do with MK getting older and his fingers not being so nimble, either because I have enjoyed some of the best TR's on the KTGC tour and his fingers were flying!   

If I wanted to hear perfection every time, I would listen to the album, but I don't very much these days.  I prefer listening to some of the wonderful recordings from the various tours.   They may not be perfect every time, but I find them more interesting.

I also think some folk are looking back through rose-tinted spectacles, saying MK is not what he used to be.  Even the much-lauded Rockpalast was not perfect, but it was non-the-less extremely enjoyable and a wonderful show to look back on.

Whatever, the audience always seem to enjoy hearing SOS played and so do I.     Relish the moment while it's happening!

Because of Hill Farmer Blues, Postcards, Going Home, The fish and the bird, S-La, BIA and autstandings versions of Speedway and for many more reasons (Mark himself looking better).
I allways looking forward: i don't compare Mark 2008 to Mark 92, 78 ecc...to that?
Now i'm looking for the autumn, for the new album and for another marvellous tour.
but, can i say that i don 't liked the SOS version of the last tour?

Geordieboy, I enjoyed KTGC very much too, for much the same reasons as you.  It was certainly one of my favourite tours, along with the Shangri-La tour and, especially Golden Heart.   Of course, you can say you didn't like SOS fro the KTGC tour, everyone is entitled to give their own opinion and we are all different. 

I'm looking forward very much to the next tour, too!

I don't think anyone took your comments personally, Geordieboy.    We all respect one another's opinions here.    I think even Mark himself would be critical of some of his own performances.  That is why he looks ahead.    He is so good, and such a genius, that he probably knows as he is playing the song that he wants to do it differently next time.

Well, each to their own, personally I would prefer some improvisation with a few mistakes coming in to overly rehearsed stuff with the same solos every night. You really think MK needs to practise the scales for Sultans at the age of 59, having played it thousands of times over the last 30 years? Sorry, but I think not.

Listening how he get lost in the solos, playing wrong notes etc etc, I guess you are wrong 

i know what you mean julio,...but they are his songs, he can do with them what he wants, noodle around, make mistakes, most of the times it is when you try something different that you make a mistake. just my 2cents...

He is not guilty that there are so many crazy chasers in the world, he has a goear account and he made this just as a joke to spanish fans in the spanish city mailing list, everybody laugh about it in the spanish city list. Is his fault that there are so many people looking under every stone in every dust road in the world just to find out as many scoops as possible and that this people believe themself as capable to judge something they already doesn
