This recording is from theirs, and I guess they didn't wanna make a fake one to fool us, it's just one way how Spanish fans express their eager to that song, even if we still have not got the chance to have a listen to that song.  Like us, they knew the song title, and with their inspiring imagination to express that song with Knopfler style and in their shape.

I'm sorry Allen I don't agree with you, because they shared it like if it was a real MK song as they did for the extented Hill farmers blues (and maybe other songs)... MK never recorded that... or i've slept for years...
IMHO it's really stupid and they should be "punished" for that kind of behaviour
Maybe I write that because i'm very desapointed . Their melody is nice anyway ...

Cheers

This is the same person, Nico de Cadi, who said to Guy on his forum that Sultans was a disaster on the 2008 tour.  Guy's answer was "rubbish" and I would have to agree with that.  He also implied that the band should practice more and leave DS songs alone!

I think this person thinks he can, perhaps, do a better job than MK! (In his dreams!)  I thought the melody was nice and played in MK's "style", but to pass it off as MK's work was most definitely wrong imo!

I know Nico, and I recall exactly what happened with that "Get lucky" thing, it was just a private joke for the spanish city mailing list, he is a goear user and thats why he uploaded it there. No intention to be searched and finded by anyone else except all the people from spanish city who received the joke mail with the link.

He is a splendid guitar player as well.

And I agree 100% with the idea of practizing more, I

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy any of the "Sultans" on the tour.  I really enjoyed the ones that I heard in all four of my concerts and especially the two I attended in Amsterdam.  Two of my favourite performances, though, are from  Red Rocks and Charlotte and I listen regularly to both of those a lot for the pure pleasure they give me, not just because I am a fan!   I have listened to both of those this morning, in fact.  If you don't like them, then I'm afraid that's your problem, not mine or anybody else's who happens to enjoy them. That's how it is with music!  :)

Well I enjoyed Sultans and I don't think MK had to play it - he doesn't have to play anything anymore. He's already dropped tracks like Money for Nothing and Walk of Life so he could easily drop Sultans, but he clearly doesn't want to.

As for practising, if the band had practised more, surely they would have played Sultans even more often and would be bored of it, making their playing even more "lifeless", so you're two arguments contradict each other I'm afraid. :)

In the contrary, Sultans versions this days are full of mistakes. Some people talk about improvisation, but when you improvise there is something is needed. PRACTICE, if you don

The version played on the GH tour was quite different.  It was much longer and had the quiet part in the middle - I loved it!   Then for STP tour, Mark wanted to get back to how it was in the beginning with a four-piece band, much as it is now.  For some reason, though, I much prefer SOS played on this tour than either STP or Shangri-La.  I was listening to Chicago 2001 the other day and there were a great many more errors there than on KTGC!  Although I am a great fan, I am also very critical and don't blindly accept everything as great!  ;)  The fact that I like and enjoy something, is all that matters btw!   ;)

Val, you are right, STP versions has two kinf of perfomances, one when MK play a mix all the solos from the original 1978 live version and some of the DS long version exactly in the same way always been played, and the other Sultan perfomance was one in which MK improvise. That versions are the ones full of errors, but in the versions played as always the versions are OK. The GH tour was a new idea of the song, with a more jazzistic interlude and little by little, the song goes faster and faster till the version we knoe from Alchemy, BIA tour etc etc, and it was very enjoyable.

The latest versions are played in a way that looks he

Julio, I enjoy things because of the fact they are good and make me feel extremely happy too!  I don't want to analyze the music when I'm at a concert - enjoyment is a spontaneous thing, it makes you feel good or it doesn't!  :)

Well, each to their own, personally I would prefer some improvisation with a few mistakes coming in to overly rehearsed stuff with the same solos every night. You really think MK needs to practise the scales for Sultans at the age of 59, having played it thousands of times over the last 30 years? Sorry, but I think not. :)

The rapturous appluase every night after Sultans would perhaps suggest that, in fact, it is YOU that is wrong, but I think seeing as music is subjective we must say simply that there is no wrong or right on this issue and that we just have different opinions. :)
