I just wonder how many people are actually interested in a boxset like this one. A behind the scenes DVD and a live CD from last tour is juicy stuff, but a copy of and old concert ticket? Dice? Chips? Ridiculous. Seems like the die hard fans are being screwed this time around. If that's what's needed to get some extra music, that's fine, but I suspect the sales on a deluxe box set like this one will be pretty low.

david gilmour did something similar on his live in gdansk deluxe dvd+cd box set, i was happy to get a dg plectrum.
i think i am crazy enough to buy this set too, no matter what price. that is the price you pay for being a knopfler nut...
any Knopfler, Floyd or Dylan will do....

That's right Pottel, the Gilmour DVD set was awesome - but he did in fact release TWO live DVDs of his last tour, Remember That Night and Live in Gdansk. The pick and the postcards were just little extras. I'm far more interested in OFFICIAL live recordings, audio and video, but MK apparently is NOT. And I think this is a big mistake, marketing-wise. IMO he needs better counselors anyway regarding promo stuff etc.

I wonder just how many people are aware of MKs contractual obligations to record labels and distributors etc.

I certainly am not aware of what they are but most musicians are not in total control of their music. They have no rights as to where and when something is released/distributed/published and by whom.

MK will probably be different because he is streetwise and has amassed a great deal of wealth that he can pick and choose who he signs to.

I would doubt there is anybody here that has seen a copy of a signed contract therefore no one can really criticise something if they don't understand it. Perhaps the boxed sets aren't of his doing - perhaps he will gain nothing from them other than what he is due for the mechanical/intellectual sale of 1 CD in each set and by the sounds of it this will not be many.

Whatever the reason though it will affect people's perceptions of him.

Simon, you're right of course, I don't think MK is that much involved in those boxsets and how they look like. I think he doesn't even know they want to pack some chips and dice in there. BUT I do know that he doesn't seem to be very keen on live DVDs or CDs and I think that is a problem. The market is there. And people would prefer DVDs over dice anytime!

I do think he knows about the dice and chips because Salvador once said that he send the cover and all the art to Mark and his Management for approvel.

I think that the management decided to make a box set and that Mark liked that idea.? I did mailed the management for a tracklist from the bonus cd but haven't got an answer yet.....

Is this a new promo pic?
http://s232.photobucket.com/albums/ee132/marky66_photos/Get%20Lucky/?action=view&current=knopfler-pic--main.jpg

On the RAH site, where they are advertising tix for next year, they use this very pic.
Surely this must be a new promo pic for the 'Get Lucky' album.
The Daily Telegraph also used the pic today in their advert fot the RAH gigs in 2010.

Are you guys sure? I haven't seen it before too but to me it looks more like a leftover pic from the ATRR promo shoots because the setting looks familiar (the sofa) and MK wears the same clothes.

I am pretty certain the picture is from ATRR.  Remember the picture used for KTGC (outside theatres, etc), the one with MK sitting on a throne?  That was an old one too, even though lots of new, gorgeous, pictures had been taken!  I think the promo people like to kid us he is looking younger every year, LOL!   I love him just as he is - they don't need to go back in time.   :P
