mark and ec, 1988, mystery riff...

around 23:32 i hear a very recognisable riff from mark, about 8 years before it was put on record. just can't put my finger on it
anyone??

any Knopfler, Floyd or Dylan will do....

Used on RAtR near the end on most versions.  Does also sound like No Can Do.

I never noticed about RATR featuring the same riff contrary to '88 that was instantly obvious to my ears.

the 88 riff is exactly the same as No can Do (it was instantly obious to me too when I discovered EC's gigs some decades ago), but the lick played in RATR is just Mark's typical style with mute strings and chicken type notes, it is not the same riff imho

you can always hear similarities between licks here and there in differents songs, but it's not the same thing to use exaclty an old idea of a riff, or a melody some years later when you are composing a song

Maybe you did not listen long enough:it starts about 7:54, and not at 7:45 as stated above

Thanks Jbaent for the link. I wonder whether there were also CE quotes in some Sunshine of your love performances from the same 87-89 era.
Gonna check it out as I'm pretty sure I heard the famous CE guitar descent riff in a Knopfler Clapton show.
