I don't really bother trying to "copy" MK so much now, I prefer trying to find my own "sound", although it's still very MK influenced. I have the MK Strat (wrong coloured version!) and a Crate VC5212 as used in the Goldne Heart era.
I think MK's basic strat sound is pretty easy to get close to using any strat, a decent clean amplifier and your fingers. I say close - people like Ingo and Stefan Price can get it down really well.
The Les Paul sound is a lot harder to get. I have a Les Paul Standard, I can get reasonably close by using the neck pickup and rolling the tone off a bit. I think it's best not to use too much gain - much better to crank the amp loud and get a bit of natural distortion going.
You can have a listen to the track "Strange As Fiction" to hear me doing my best MK rip off on my MK strat - I can't give you a time on the track unfortunately as myspace seems to be doing something wierd to the songs:
