RIP Sir Terry Wogan
« on: February 01, 2016, 01:31:11 AM »
We have lost one of the UK's best broadcasters and a great friend of MK's music, Sir Terry.

Tel is perhaps most credited in our circles with making Sailimg to Philadelphia the most played single on BBC Radio 2 for several weeks in 2001. He also regularly played so many other MK / DS tracks including many lesser known songs such as Sultans, Sailing, calling Elvis, how long, postcards, ticket to heaven and the bug.

A great man with a great taste in music all backed up with a mantra that life is fun!

RIP Sir Terry.

I was so upset yesterday to hear that Terry has died.   His morning banter kept me smiling throughout the 80s with his gentle humour.  I loved his inimitable reviews of programmes such as Dallas and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, which had me howling with laughter. Morning radio was never quite the same when he left.   RIP Terry, you were my friend!

Interesting to know that Pigster thinks Sultans is a lesser known song! But I'll also miss Tel, whose long time producer, Paul Williams, was a huge DS fan.

Nope I wasn't saying sultans is lesser known, instead was highlighting that Tel played a variety of Mark's music including lesser known tracks which in the UK at least would never have had radio play.

I believe the guy who chose the music was a big MK fan. But you are right, he used to play the most obscure collaborations as well, Bill Wyman, Zucchero, Rod Stewart etc.
