What TV/radio promo should MK do for the new record?
« on: March 21, 2009, 10:11:02 PM »
When the new record is (hopefully) released later this year, MK will probably make quite a few appearances on various TV and radio shows. Personally I would love to see him on a few he's not done before. Something like The Colbert Report would be terrific. I was just re-watching a few of Stephen Colbert's interviews with musicians (Paul Simon, James Taylor, Tony Bennett) and it struck me how his style of questioning is so different and unusual that it often results in unique, funny, sometimes fascinating interviews. I'm sure it would be a different exchange than usual for Mark, where he tends to recycle a lot of comments from other interviews.

Another one I'd love to see him do is Top Gear as the "Star in a Reasonably Priced Car". I think that could be fantastic (he seems to love talking about cars/bikes) and it's the sort of show where I can imagine him opening up and enjoying himself. Also I bet he'd do a pretty quick lap round the track!

A while back I saw a video on YouTube where MK was playing scalectrix with an interviewer in British Grove Studios...it was bizarre, but I remember thinking how interesting it was. Mark just seemed natural and relaxed. I'd love to see more like that.

So my question is, what TV/radio shows would everyone here like to see Mark do for the new record?

I'm not sure if this show airs at all in the UK...but there is a show on the "Sundance" Channel in the US called "Spectacle" in which Elvis Costello interviews and performs with songwriters. He has had Elton, Lou Reed, Tony Bennett (ok...not all are songwriters), Smokey Robinson and Jakob Dylan on the show so far. I'm not sure if Mark would get along with Costello..(not everybody does)..but I've enjoyed the show so far and it's interesting to hear some of the stories told.

I really loved the performance he did with Emmylou on Imus (thanks to Marie for recording!).

But Imus has been hounded off the air now. :(
