SOS played in the Rovers Return on Coronation St.
« on: March 20, 2009, 09:07:26 PM »
Hi all.
Just watching tonights edition of Coronation St.
On the juke box in the background of the Rovers Return, i couldn't believe it. They were playing SOS.

I started jumping around the room like a madman.

Cheers BBB
And a crowd of young boys they're fooling around in the corner
Drunk and dressed in their best brown baggies and their platform soles.

To tell you the truth, i can't stand ANY of the soaps. It's only coz the wife had it on.
But my ears pricked up (like they do being a Knopfler fanatic) ;D
And like you, i was going shhhhhh shhhhhhhh shhhhhhhhhh, straining to hear EVERY note. :D

Not the first time Coronation St or Eastenders for that matter has had DS or MK on in the background.
I think Eastenders had 'Boom Like' That on a few years back.

I took the Street tour at Granada Studios about 15 yrs ago. It was GREAT to walk on the cobbles.!

Cheers    BBB.

Yeah right Rollergirl.!!!!!!!!!!!! You're right. ;)
My whole life revolves around the soaps. Infact i spend so much time watching them nowadays, that i'm considering giving up my love of Mark Knopfler, and becoming a full time soap addict. :)
What do you think.!!?? :o ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Cheers   BBB ;D

I spotted Sultans too, but did nobody else notice that "Love Over Gold" was playing in the Rovers just 5 minutes earlier in that same episode?! Someone is obviously a fan!

On the second episode of Coronation Street last Friday they were playing Lady Writer in the Rovers! I was listening to the song so intently that I have no idea what on earth happened during the last few minutes of the show. For all I know, Emily Bishop admitted to a lesbian affair with Betty and then announced that everyone's drinks were poisoned (for the record, I think that would make a great storyline).

I only watch for the music...honest.

That's three DS songs they've played in the space of 2 weeks; I can only assume that Coronation Street is lining MK up for a guest spot in the show. Maybe he could play Ken Barlow's long lost brother...who just happens to play guitar!

"Twisting by the Pool" was played in the Rovers on Sunday's episode.

Summat is definitely going on here.

I'm pretty sure the performing rights law would ensure that MK would get some cash every time one of his songs is played, even in the background, so this could be a nice little earner.

Maybe somebody from Coronation Street reads this forum? If so, could we have Walk of Life next please?  :)

I'd like to offer Coronation Street this script (free of charge!):

Ken and Deirdre Barlow are in the Rovers:

Deirdre: Do you fancy a hotpot, Ken?

Ken: Shut up you stupid cow, don't you know what song this is?

Deirdre looks confused

Ken: It's "Tunnel of Love". Now be quiet and listen in silence.

They listen to the song for the final ten minutes of the episode. There is no more dialogue.

Does anyone think this wouldn't be an improvement?
