Cleaning My Gun -- different studio version
« on: December 05, 2015, 02:17:18 AM »
Help! I am trying to find a different studio version of "Cleaning My Gun" .... not the one on Get Lucky! I remember it clearly: Mark growls the words "my gun", and he doesn't stretch these words out like he does on Get Lucky (where he sings "myyyyyy gunnn"). Somehow I think this version came out when Privateering was released. I'm not referring to any of the live versions.

Can somebody here help me track this down? I can't find it on YouTube, iTunes, or Amazon, and I am dying to hear it again.

Thank you!!
Drew

Did you check the cd3 from the Privateering - 3 CD -Deluxe Edition?

I am not aware of an alternate studio take being pubblished other than this rehearshal (live without public)

Ps : I don't think it is  a good idea to post duplicate topics in different sections of this forum.

Maybe he's referring to the rehearsal version?

Hey, that's the version I was looking for! Thank you both!! What a great track. Personally, I think it's miles better than the Get Lucky version ... much more soulful and compelling.

Apologies for the duplicate posts in different sections of this forum; I've removed the other ones. This was my first visit here but I may have to start visiting more often. Mark Knopfler has enriched my life beyond words. In addition to the amazing Dire Straits catalog, I consider stuff like "Our Shangri-La", "Coyote", "Back to Tupelo", "Prairie Wedding", and "You Don't Know You're Born" to be absolutely priceless.

During the height of Dire Straits mania around 1986, I remember seeing a hyped-up, sycophantic MTV "V-jay" breathlessly hounding Mark. Mark was having none of it. He was soooooo cool and low-key, obviously uninterested in any of the celebrity bullshit that they were trying to pin on him. My respect for him just rocketed after I saw that.

Cheers all,
Drew
