Hey Pottel!   I loved both of those songs and I intend to buy the album!   Are they Portuguese?

It reminds me in a kind of way of some Greek albums I have of Manos Hadjidakis - "35 Songs of the Roman Marketplace"  " Village Named Desire" and "Magnus Eroticus"  - they are well removed from "Never on Sunday" LOL!   I have them on my MP3 and play them when lying on a Greek beach!   ;D

Thanks for the recommendation!

Superval, have you ever listened to Giocondas' smile by Hadjidakis? One of his most popular, produced by Quincy Jones back in the 60ies, all instrumental. Probably my favourite record from this great composer, eventhough the Greek elements in this record are less "to the front" and obvious than the rest you mention.  I am surprised you know "Magnus Eroticus", his other masterpiece, since it is sung in Greek and that must be a boundary of some sort. How come you got to know all these recordings? Anyway, Portuguese Madredeus  were a big hit in Greece 15-20 years ago, with "O Pastor", and that goes to show that your connection with Hadjidakis' music is somehow correct! I loved them as well, bought 3 of their albums, but since I lost touch. Good to be reminded and remembered. "Existir" is their famous album, I guess it is not that hard to find. Now this would be a nice topic for a new thread: suggestions about music of a more "ethnic" nature. Of course people from UK and USA would have too much new suggestions, since the bulk of the music we listen to, come from these countries.
Anyway, if you liked Hadjidakis, you might as well try Manos Loizos, or a new group called Mat se dio ifesis.
Come on, it is not funny anymore.

it was released by EMI, in 1992
called Madredeus:Lisboa
this one first went by unnoticed, as the cover is different to the one i have, but it has the exact same content:

Hi VGONIS2002!   No I haven't heard Gioconda's Smile, but I will look it up!   Thanks!

About the Greek music.  I first heard this music when I was at a restaurant at Kastro in Kefalonia.  I asked the owner of the restaurant what it was called and it was "35 Songs of the Roman Marketplace" - a double album, which dates back to 1935.  As I said, it suits the mood perfectly when I am in Greece, on a beach or on a mountainside, but I listen to it also when I am in my own home quite often.

I first heard "Magnus Eroticus" and "Village Named Desire" when, once again, I was in a restaurant, this time in Samos .   It doesn't matter to me that these songs are in Greek, because when I listen to them, my thoughts return to where I heard them!  It brings back memories of sunshine and the smell of herbs  :)

Have been listening to the 2 first Grin's records. Nils Lofgren has never bettered them, either as a guitarist or composer. And he is such a great guitarist and composer! Not one filler!
