I finally had the chance to listen to the album. The first time, I didn't quite get it and didn't even finish it. But after a few listens...what do you know it's grown on me and now I like it. It's quite a beautiful album to listen to from beginning to end. A part of me does wonder, however, if I would feel the same way if it didn't have Gilmour's distinctive guitar sound and some of the old PF trademarks peppered all over it.

This is exactly the point I stand on. On studio you can add effect on the voice to make it sound better. David is average, he's not Rod nor Robert nor Ian nor Wilson. You don't go to concert just to hear David sing. Just listen to RTN, from the moment he's joined by Crosby and Nash you can hear the difference.

If David's voice is average, what is Mark's ? horrible ?

Mark sings better than Bob  ;D  :P  :think

Actually I'm just quoting a newspaper's reviewer after a Mark/Bob concert in 2011, I thought he was quite right :)

Just back from my David Gilmour show in the chorus at the RAH.

The show was great, even the sound during the first and second show was horrible, I didn´t heard anything during "Rattle That Lock" except noise, reverb, echo... but it was fixed and during the rest of the show the sound wasn´t good, but it was listenable.

I had a nice view of the stage and all the musicians, the only one I always had him back was Manzanera, I didnt see his face, but I saw the others faces quite a lot.

I had views of the back of the circle from the chorus, so I didnt see any projection and only the lights the circle projected to the audience and the stage, so that part of the show was missed for me.

David played great excep some mistakes here and there and he sung quite well, considering that the sound where I was wasn´t good enough to say he sung perfectly or badly.

Quite an experience.

When I was at the loo after the show, my friend saw Jeff Beck

Thanks for your report.
What do you think about DG's new album?
Did he vary his set during the RAH residency?

I like his new album, in general I think that On An Island is far better album, but this one has trult gems like Faces Of Stone, The Boat Lies Waiting and In Any Tongue...

He only made a variation in his RAH residence, one night he added Coming Back To Life, just one night.

I like both albums, but I also prefer the new one, more rocking, even though a track like "castellorizon" from On a Island was outstanding.
The only thing that bothers me with the new record is the title track. As a french I cannot stand this stupid SNCF (railways national company) jingle to announce stupidities... No quite sure what David was thinking, it's as if Mozart had wanted to build an symphony from disco music... anyway, the song itself is ok, but would be far better without the jingle !

I guess that for not French people, it works quite well with the song. I actually like it and I would find it rare the other way around, if I end in the future in a French train station and I listen it without the Gilmour song  ;D

I like it. I find it suits to the song (tempo, key, travel theme...), and I find it's an original idea.
of course it has a strong connation for us frenchies, and when I am in a train station, I always wait for the Gimour tune to start....
