I know many people don't but I love Live Aid.

It is the only official live version of SoS with sax on DVD. It is a bit less good that Wembley'85 3 days before, the band was a bit less focused (stress ?) and no soundcheck, but nonetheless a real bad-ass version
I like MFN a bit less, Sting messed up the intro with his out-of-tune voice.

But I still love it, it is the only official recording from the BIA tour era, and precisely the fact that it is not perfect makes it more "human". It was still day, not night, with no special visual effects like on the Wembley video, so you can see very well what is going on on stage.

A very dear document - only too short. If only they played TOL, BIA and PI...

I love Sultans here.  Maybe even prefer it to 10.07.85.  The solo is nice and rough and it is played faultlessly, unlike 10.07.85 which isn't quite perfect.  I always laugh when people say "Wembley '85" because they did a residency of 13 consecutive shows, in doing so breaking a record there.   

If only they'd got the sound right because Chris is just all over Mark at the end.  As you said though Herlock - no soundcheck.

And it's the only video in which you can see Joop de Korte playing percussion on stage, with DS he always played in a hidden position since 1980 to 1986, but in Live Aid is on stage between Terry and Guy.

You surprise me ! I thought everybody would think that 10.07.85 is better than 13.07.85... me included... maybe it is because of the mysterious atmosphere that the night setting and special visual effect (quite revolutionary for the time !) that are present on 10.07 and not on Live Aid...

The occasion adds to it too, of course.  I just wish the mix at the end of Sultans was better and that Sting never got the lyrics mixed up on MFN!

I agree I think what makes the Live Aid performance is that it is so raw and the feeling in the music is profound. I like seeing Joop, but there is also a guy at the side of the stage who has climbed the scaffold and is looking down...he must have had a great view and just shows the informality of the whole affair.

Sound quality is not so important for me here. I spoke to a guy who had been at Wembley on the day and said of all the acts DS were the best. I think that DS certainly propelled the show at that time into the day into the stratosphere.

Yes it was such a great event to watch on TV, I still remember that day as if it was yesterday, I was in Sweden with my Ex Husband and some neighbours!! By the way I saw that Jack intends to sell his Red Coat on an auction to the benefits of some charity!!! At least it's what he wrote on FB and on his Site!!! Great idea, he will make some money with his famous coat!!!

Some others are saying that Freddie Mercury was the best!!! He surely made the crowd sing and said " F..k You at the end!!! lol!!!

Polar opposite of Mark.  With characters like this I always ask myself if they'd be as successful if they behaved like MK and the answer is invariably "no."

I agree with you dmg and Dutchessy. I love Freddie. He was a great performer and singer. Without him Queen would never have been so successful. But MK has more charisma and it's always been because of his guitar playing and his songwriting!! But I still am a big Fan of Freddie and I felt very sorry when he died!!!

My opinion of Freddy Mercury is summed up by Marijo58 when she says one of the first things thought of regarding the performance on Live Aid was when he said "F..k You at the end."
