Type of guitar used.....

Does anyone know what type of guitar was used at the end of the song "Angel of Mercy" from the Communique album? Was it pedal steel, lap steel or a slide with a conventional electric guitar or other?

Well I'm certain in my memory... but I'm also certain that my memory is not 100% correct.

I remember reading it in an early interview, I remember thinking it was funny because MK said that the 12-string was also a backup guitar in case something happened to the strat, which I thought was truly bizarre as there is no way you could do the diddly bit at the end of Sultans on it.

Hi Marjorie,
the final solo of "Angel Of Mercy" was played with a conventional 6-strings guitar, a Fender Stratocaster.
It is not the case of a 12-string guitar.

Take a listen to this live version, the solo from about 2:48 is quite clearly an electric 12 string, no question.

OK, having just gone and actually listened to the song ( ), it is indeed a Strat on the final solo, but a 12-string on the middle "breakdown" bit (from about 2:20) in.

Correct, I'm just not sure whether it was that final solo that Marjorie was asking about - as it's clearly a strat.

The 12-string solo (on the studio version too) could also be classed as "the solo at the end" as it comes after the verses.

Perhaps Marjorie could clarify.

To try to clarify......it has the "country music" twang sound just before the end of the song; then ending with a louder "twang" that compliments the previous "twang".

Hi Marjorie,

yes I understand perfectly what you mean.
I was talking about that solo, recorded in the studio version, and I confim that the guitar used is a Fender Stratocaster....but you know you could also use a Telecaster (more twang!) and it would be nice as well.
By the way I am a big fan of twangy sound and country music.
