Bluebird (Mark Knopfler)

LYRICS
Got crows in my pasture
Rats in my barn
Crows in my pasture, babe
Rats in my barn
If I was you, little bluebird
I’d up and find another farm
I’ve got nightshade in my meadow
Ragweed in my corn
Nightshade in my meadow
And ragweed in my corn
If I was you, little bluebird
I’d be long gone
Yes, I got squirrels in my rafters
Weevils in my hay
Squirrels in my rafters
Weevils in my hay
If I was you, little bluebird
I’d up and fly away
Fly away, baby

I love this song. I would like more such songs on the new album. But it's impossible. There is no Kim Wilson. I had to write it :)
I know the way I can see by the moonlight
Clear as the day
Now come on woman, come follow me home

I don't like the imput of Kim Wilson at all on the whole Privateering album. It's a matter of taste ofcourse.

Of course. But this song has everything ...
I know the way I can see by the moonlight
Clear as the day
Now come on woman, come follow me home

Utterly brilliant when played on some good speakers with a glass of whisky close

Agree.  But would replace whisky with some excellent California Chardonnay.   ;)

An observation I had with this song was that it seemed to particulary fit the backdrop of central California's farmland. This song was on my playlist during a marathon in the Central coastal area, and I felt like it meshed perfectly with the atmosphere.  I could also have been exhausted and in a near-delirious state at that point...  ;D

yes I remember when I was at highschool, I was listening to the communique album on my Sony walkman ( :o) and make it listening to a friend, and he said something like :"yeah good music, you know it's the kind of music you wan to listen to while drinking a good beer..."
I think it is exactly the defintion of laid back music, you know when JJ cale said something like : "The music I like ? it's the kind of music I can listen to while being on a rockin chair..."

Agree with both of you. I often do that with MK music, just laid back listening. Brings the mind at peace  :D

I recall that during promotion, MK did some interviews at the bluebird café in Chelsea and he mentioned the journalist that the reason why was because he lives near so it was convenient.

I can't find that interviews in internet, do any of you remember about them, bookmarked them or whatever?

It's curious that he did that interviews in a café that is close to where he lives and that ended being a title of one of his songs  ;D

Yeah, so I guess we all have our own problems, our own crosses to bear, and be careful of what you wish for, because all that glitters isn’t gold, etc. etc.

Weevils in my hay?  I always heard “weevils in my hair” spoken in a self-deprecating way.  I like my lyric better!
