Orange recording by Radio DJ
« on: January 12, 2009, 01:51:27 PM »
many of you know this brilliant recording, made by the dj who presents it, and who is relatively quite for Radio dj standards, and especially for a french one.
now he clearly states he could not play the whole show as the programme typically only ran for an hour.
this means the whole tape is still out there, and pretty darn fine quality.
does anyone know which radio station this was and who the guy was so we can contact him?????
any Knopfler, Floyd or Dylan will do....

I've got this info from the torrent file:

Orange FRANCE - June 11th 1985
Description:
ORANGE 1985

1. Intro
2. Ride across the river (cut)
3. So far away
4. Romeo and Juliet
5. Why worry
6. Money for nothing
7. Brothers in arms
8. Tunnel of love

Arenes, Orange, 11th June 1985.

Additional comments:
A recording from 1985 at Arenes, Orange,  This is a strange recording. It is actually a radio broadcast from "Radio Activite", a French station. The announcer says that he taped it illegally during the show with bad equipment, so it is not soundboard, but audience recording. The announcer speaks over songs sometimes and the sound quality is not too good.

So, it seems he couldn't record the whole concert? Anybody with French to confirm?

no, i do not agree, SQ is more then decent, and the guy clearly states he had to select some songs for the programme, not that he did not record all, so therefore i assume he has the whole thing.
so, now where are our french fans/friends to find out who was this DJ at Radio Activit
any Knopfler, Floyd or Dylan will do....

I contacted a French user on DIME about this one about two years ago. He was uploading a lot of pre-FM recordings that he made of small local bands all through the 1980s in France. Most of these were soundboard / ambient mic mixes that were made specifically for broadcast. I definitely didn't think he made this DS recording, but he seemed fairly active in French radio, so I sent him a PM about this one for information. Needless to say he had no clue, and never even heard of a program called "Radio Activite".

So that was a total waste of time.  8)

It's fairly rare to hear audience recordings over the radio I guess, but in 2007, a Philadelphia area FM radio station played back tracks from Led Zeppelin's December reunion show that were clearly from "slowburn's" audience recording...which originally appeared on DIME.

Also, an XM satellite radio station last year played back an entire audience recording of Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street band's performance at a small New Jersey theater days prior.

So go figure...
