Oh yes and if any band members are reading I would wholeheartedly support some kind of musical meet up of ex band members. Its only music, but music worth celebrating so people need to chill out and i would suggest not attend such a gig if they object to the idea. I have seen MK, the Straits and Big John all play live over the past couple of years and the latter two have not disappointed.

It's about 35 years since Dave left the band. Maybe they could commemorate that?

All kidding aside, I think the original line-up is the only one I'd care to see reunite. Four geezers in their 60s playing those early songs would be smoking.

I suppose you don't see a lot of live concerts of 60'ers redux.
I do see a lot and generally they rock like last 2 days with John.
So was almost every concert of 60'ers I attended in the last 5 years. And i think when i start counting the number of shows I now talk about is about 100.
Besides that, original line-up isn't necessary. I enjoyed every tour since 1985 and I loved them all.
I also had a great party with BBB some years ago to celebrate our 40th birthday and our 30 years fandom of mk. We had an excellent DS coverband and rocked our heads of with all DS songs  :)
It's a matter of enjoying what you get and enjoying great musicians with great songs is the best thing in life.

What I meant was that I think those early songs would fit the gentlemen in question better than reproducing the ginormous arena monstrosities that followed later. Just pretending the fabulous four got back together for a commemorative evening of frivolous sing-song, seeing them in a small, intimate Sultans-style venue would be swell.

That will never happen. Besides that the 4 you mean only did 2 albums together if I remember well. A lot more followed with other musicians involved. But I agree with you about intimate venues, like this weekend. It's really great to see those musicians in smaller venues

good to see this straightened out (no pun intended) and sure hope for a word or two from Mr. Palmer.
seeing as how both tommy mandel and jack sonni contributed, it would be another nice addition.

;) ::)  ;) We could start a new section next to "Almost Straits" called "Used to be Straits"  ;)

No, on a serious note, I agree, it would be nice to have all past contributors to the journey to share their stories here!  :thumbsup

So long as they make it absolutely clear that they are NOT Dire Straits, I'm sure most fans would feel much better about this celebration of DS songs.   Another name, other than "The Straits" would be great, so there's no confusion!  ;)

Yeah right, The Fab Four still my favourite tribute band. They not called The Beetles or something like that, just familiar yet not confusing name. Perfect.

I agree Val, but the problem is that it's not Phil or John or whoever will join will say this, it's the promotors, the journalists and so on who will  talk about that all the time. I hope they will choose another name as well. But pretty sure the posters and articles will not talk about that, they will only mention DS all the time.

That's a shame, because I feel that the name "The Straits" is the main bone of contention amongst DS fans.  If the name was changed there would be much less negativity about the band.    :)    I also feel that Mark should be mentioned somewhere in the show as the composer of the songs, even though he may not be present.
