I was wondering what is the best sounding remastered version? So far I know the 1996 remaster by Bob Ludwig, to me it sounds a bit too compressed compared to the original. But there is also a XRCD and a Hybrid SACD. Did anyone compare these to the sound of the vinyl editions? And what is the longest running time of Brothers In Arms?

It is a matter of taste really. Many prefer the original (not remastered) versions. Some like the 20th anniversary SACD remaster. (Not the 1996)  The CD version is longer that the vinyl, but I don't think that there is a difference in time amongst CDs.
Come on, it is not funny anymore.

Thanks for your input. I'll give the 20th anniversary SACD remaster a spin soon. By the way, the 1996 Bl remastered version of BIA lasts 7:04. Most of the time I fight the fade out by turning the volume up to eleven!  :wave

Only John Bennett who is focused on collecting BiA must have more!
Some of the most interesting versions are the Yugoslavian vinyl with slightly different lyrics printed for MFN. The Korean that for some peculiar reason leaves out RATR and puts WW first on Side B. There is also an extra rare test pressing from Poland with the songs at their full CD versions (don't have it).

Here is the rest

There is at least another dozen of versions in my wanted list

........Which reminds me of another picture disc the SOS single from Poland.

On CD? This?

If you look closer in the article above you will find that, officially, DS first time live performing BIA song was in Split, Croatia on their 85-86 tour!

Many prefer the DVD-Audio.

This too has received positive reviews

I was referring to a previous discussion about vinyl picture discs. This one to be exact:

Not to mention that during the BIA Tour only in Split has been played Six Blade Knife. And what a nice version!

I'll bet Mark's quietly pleased about this.  He'll go into a room on his own and jump up and down!  ;)

He'll celebrate by ending every show on the Tracker tour with So Far Away.

Oh no Pleeeeasssseee no!!!!!

......which is the best sounding to you?

I'm not an audiophile nor I have an equipment that allows me to catch the nuances. In general I don't sympathize with the remasters due to the excessive compression which reduces the dynamic range. But, as you said, It's a matter of taste
