The album cover looks like an old battle field.
If I realised that the chances were slim,
How come I'm so surprised when the tide rolled in

Using my Agriculture degree - ive tried to look at the field and see what i could pick up....

Its definately a farmers field and definately just after the crop has been harvested - you can see recent tractor movements left over on the post harvest landscape.

My first thought it was a maise field - but on closer inspection the crop in the ground isnt maise stubble

My next thought moved onto one fo the cereals (wheat or barley) - the crop is too badly sown and badly spaced to be a cereal

...So the last logical conclusion is that MK is standing in a field of recently harvested Oilseed Rape.

And as the harvest for Oil Seed Rape is harvested in August or September in the UK, this picture could only be a few weeks old...

Now....to find the recent Oilseed Rape fields in UK.....due to normal crop rotations its probabaly growning either wheat or barley for this season - so will be ploughed and now be showing little green shoots....so the farmer wont be best pleased with Knopfler-ists tramping across his field!

The location of the field on the album cover for me has to be in the 'New Forest' but I could be wrong? But living so near, it looks familiar... .. :wave

Just for the record and for this thread, Guy confirmed that it will be a single album, so no double, but with a lot of bonus tracks (as he understands).

This "as I understand" is pretty astonishing, we had discussions about the release forms earlier. So it really seems to me that Mark says to the record company,"Here is a bunch of songs, these 12 to 16 I suggest for the album, I suggest this running order, here is a bunch of 3 to 8 bonus songs, for further use if you like. Do with it as you want to."  This sounds not exactly the way MK is to be seen - as an artist of fullest  control about everything..

However, great to have some bonussongs in sight! Question is, how many Deluxe boxes and Special Editons does one have to buy to get them all..

Indeed, I think it will cost a lot to collect all the songs on CD (over 100 euro's i guess).... Again :-\

The bonus tracks will surface soon on the net anyway so I wouldn't worry.  The deluxe editions only give you poker chips and other junk do they not anyway?  I myself have never bought into them.  Remember folks - I wouldn't order them from the official site.  Remember the delay with Privateering Deluxe boxes?  ::)

By the way: I must have missed something very, very, very important in the last couple of years. Privateering was MK's 7th studio album (they say). Tracker is known to be his 9th... What's number 8 like? Is it good? What's it called anyway? :think

Never treated Roadrunning as a solo album, despite almost all songs written by MK. But since official site stated it like '9-th STUDIO album', so it makes sense. But his DS albums are also stuido, so why not '17-th studio album'? Including DS, Hillbillies and Neck And Neck. It should be 8-th solo studio album.

I think that he is obligated to offer some extra songs, in case the company issue a single (as Bsides) or to play the itunes, amazon promo game of special  songs. I completely disagree with this logic, as a consumer, but unfortunately as a fan I always fall for this... Desire versus logic that will affect the releases eventually.
Come on, it is not funny anymore.

I agree with that. The thing is that www.markknopfler.com states Privateering as the seventh MK's album! Did we miss something?

I don't like the lots of extra songs announcement at all

higher number of songs = lower quality

I want an album with just 5 songs and the first lasting 14:15

 ;)

I'm afraid that if it did, it would contain a 10 minute uilleann pipes solo!  ::)

totally agree

it's not the amount of tracks that counts, but the quality of them

I would say that one RATR, or one INR, or even one WII, one STP equals tons of quality shoe, stand up guy or secondary waltz imho....
