Bruce Molsky plays on the new Mark Knopfler album
« on: June 14, 2014, 07:43:05 PM »
AMIT's very own Guitarman1972 was able to recognize this Musician on one of Guy's new diary pictures today, so I thought he (Bruce, not Guitarman) deserves a new thread - even though it is not clear yet how big the influence of Molsky on the new album will be.

Wikipedia says he "is an American fiddler, banjo player, guitarist, and singer. He primarily performs old-time music of the Appalachian region."
His father "was a first-generation American descendant of Jewish immigrants from Poland".

Here are some YouTube clips:

(here was another video, but it is only working on YouTube itself obviously, so I deleted it here.)

I like this one very much, pretty cool:

Not too celtic, what do you think?

So it's the old Transatlantic Sessions connection again.   ::)

That's how Mike came on board and how Phil plays on the records too.  I fear this one is going to sound very much in the mould of a Transatlantic Sessions set.  He isn't exactly going to turn it up.

Also Tim O'brien and Ruth Moody got to play with MK through McCusker and his transatlantic connections.

I wonder how McCusker arrived to Planet Knopfler. Maybe by the accordion player who played on Crimson record, that already played on A shot at glory soundtrack?

McCusker was already the darling of the uk folk scene by the time he worked with MK.

Here's another expression we have:  it's not what you know but who you know.

I think that sums up how to get into Mark's band, although to be fair they are top class.

On the shelves stand Dire Straits gigs in 1977, John Illsley's wedding, Guy's son birthday party, rehearsal for Montserrat and many more.
My idea of heaven is a place where the Tyne meets the Delta, where folk music meets the blues.
