Agreed! Also MK is not the only vocalist, but also EC and Don White sing on this short track.. (no idea why they do it...) So for me, Someday is more a real MK track and this one just another... contribution.  ;)

A contribution with Clapton is always good as long as he's not just a rhythm guitar player or a backing vocalist !
They got a name for people like you, yeh they do
And they got a name for people like me too

Wow, Mark is getting fat, and not hair at all now...

Somehow bittersweet to hear him talking about "I played with him one night..."  why on earth was it so difficult to get together and play together if JJ was so important for him I wonder...

Really informative and great video, thanks for that!

It's got that unmistakable Knopfler-kind of groove. That wonderful slacking beat with the snare drum just in the right place. It's THAT sound, and I love everytime I hear MK cutting tracks that has that groove in it.

These songs sound better than most of the stuff MK has produced the last ten years.

Well, keep in mind that this is actually JJ Cale-stuff, the "Tulsa sound"...  ;)

Lots of influences but all in all it's quite straightforward Americana. It's hard to make this kind of music NOT to sound good.

But then again, "Privateering" is way way way better stuff than "KTGC". So yes, the last couple of years have been a clear step-up.

edit... Can't tell which I'm anticipating more right now. This release or the upcoming four weeks summer's vacation.  ;D

Hm.

I prefer everything from Get Lucky to Privateering from this pretty monotonic ratteling boring stuff to be honest...

And MK busy talking about an "interesting concept" and "a couple of theories" flying around.. about an unreleased song?  Nice to hear that at least he seems to talk about the meanings of songs from others, whereas it seems he doesn't like people to get too much knowledge about his own stuff.

Some like "Fizzy and the still" others like "Corned beef city". I agree with Tally, both songs from the tribute are top class-Knopfler stuff.

But LE, isn't it always easier to talk about others than about yourself?  :)

Of course it is!! I was thinking about the "frustration" that creeps in when thinking too much about certrain lyrics (example: In The Sky) and you are just not able to find the one key, the one single word that maybe offers the solution to crack the code of some of his songs.

I like "Someday" very much and judge that one as a "real" Knopfler gem with phantastic guitar playing and some fresh licks. As said before, with the vocals of EC and Mr. White, I have trouble to see "Train to Nowhere" as a full Knopfler song. I was able to listen to 1:10 min previes at iTunes, and it is not giving very much to me. Buch each to his/her own, as you said!  ;)
