A old article.
« on: April 27, 2014, 10:33:00 PM »
Hi Folks,
some time ago on a site I saw a news report about Mark, I do not remember if it was French, where there was a picture of Gilmour and do not remember the words but I think he appreciated very Romeo & Juliet.
Please, any of you, if it is in possession, I would be very grateful if you would do me in some way review.
Thanks

This is the only article I can find where Gilmour mentions MK - no mention of R&J though

Hi jakehadlee,
thanks for reply and thanks for this article that I don't never see. But is not this. It was an article about MK, in french I suppose, in this long article it was a mention of words by Gilmour about Mk very little but interesting.

I've got this article at home.
It was in a Guitarist magazine (french guitar magazine), at the "Sailing To philadephia" time.
David Gilmour was touring with an acoustic show at the same moment (released in DVD as David Gilmour in concert), and there is an interview of both artist, with Mark having few words on David, and vice versa.
I'll try to make a scan of it.

This is the scan (sorry the size is about 38 Mb...) : http://tinbox.free.fr/GuitaristMag2002Octobre.pdf

This is my attempt for translating the parts where MK talks about DG, and DG talks about MK

DG by MK : "I already played with him, but we never recorded together. I like his intonation, there is always a swamp, bluesy side with his stratocaster's sound, but in the same time acrystalline quality, like my own sound. What I also like with Dave, is that he plays in turning around the main melody, that he rarely approachs directly, it's the mark of a great guitarist"

MK by DG : "Mark is a musician with a huge talent. SOme of his songs are wonderful and his guitar playing is unique. I'm an unconditional of the first album, but, generally, I love the main songs of each album. R&J is moving, BiA is surprizing... I also like very much the soundtrack he wrote. A bout his guitar playing, I must confess that I can't play one or other of his solos"

When? Besides the French and Saunders sketch, I cant recall any other ocassion when MK and DG played together...

That'll probably be what he was referring to.

In the dressing room before they went to French and Saunders sketch.    ;D

They have been to some major gigs, on different times and dates, though (for instance Knebworth), so maybe they jammed together during rehearsals. However their answers do not reveal anything of the sort. It is a bit formal, if you know what I mean.  Probably just French and Saunders.

Thank you for the article and translation!
Come on, it is not funny anymore.
