I prevailed on mrs twm to check her old stuff (she doesn't get excited about this sort of thing) and it is mentioned in the DSIS newsletter for "AUG/SEP '89".

It refers to a "one-off charity concert in May, at The Anugraha Centre in Egham", which raised

Egham recording? I thought I had that recording too for over 10 years but it appeared to be the Newcastle show. Please check the mentioned city in So Far Away, just to be sure  :D

Thanks twm, that was exactly what I read before in the old DSIS newsletter. I think it only mentioned the Egham show, no sign of the Newcastle show, right?  I guess that is where all the confusion began. So, two charity shows in 1989, with at least one recording which must be from Newcastle I think. Would of course be great if the show in Egham was also recorded!

Perhaps a recording exists of Egham but no one has released it simply because they thought it was already circulating!

Thank-you Mrs. twm.

While these old DSIS newsletters are lying around, I've had a very quick look to see if I can spot any reference to the Newcastle charity show but I'm afraid that I can't.  Sorry.

I did note something that may (or may not) be of interest to some folks here - see new "Lockerbie tickets" thread.

A few comments from the non-fan here:

1. "Walk of Life", mentioned in the DSIS  newsletter, is not on the bootleg album which was originally called "Egham" but turns out to be from Newcastle.

2.The DSIS newsletter also says that "it was a private 'invited guests only show (tickets were

I did say that it was "unlikely that many DS fans attended" and did not suggest that no DS fans attended.

What you do know is that, if a DS fan did attend this charity event, if he or she had a recorder with them and if he or she then recorded the show, it has never been circulated in the 25 years since the show took place. Sad but true.

yep tvm , i also think that at least one show is not recorded or did not surfaced yet , and that because he or she may think that it is already among the fans as the Egham gig
Still i think that the show widely spread as  " Egham" is the Newcastle show.

i gave the recording a close listen ( got a copy no need to send me one , thx anyway Tunnel85 ) , and during the intro you can hear
the announcer say:
"Ladies and Gentlemen give a round off applause because once again they have given their services for free now......"

does " once again..." point to the "Egham" gig which has nothing to do with the BraveHeart foundation but still it is charity , or the day before the 9Th which comes up when google-ing with the 10th on setlistfm** (without setlist) or further back to the Mandela gig. ?

Hi all
Interesting topic. At last we can see a photo of the 1989 DS!
I'm Joan from Barcelona. Terry Williams always told me about one concert. I'm sure if there had been another concert he would talk about it. If it was his last concert ever with DS how he could forget there were two the same year?
Dire Straits in two benefic gigs in 5 months? Don't think so. I'm almost sure there was only one concert.
Strange no one recorded it in video. We have 3 homevideos from the 1985 tour (Vienna, Toronto, Helsinki) and no one recorded this one in 1989? Also very strange there are any photos of the event and the only one we have has surfaced 25 years later.
Very interesting mistery. Nice Enlight remastered version !
