Mikel's collection is awesome, and it is a showcase!   Beautiful to look at.    He has taken wonderful care of it.   A model for all of us.   My collection is decent enough, but it certainly doesn't show as great as his does!

I have to say the same for my collection. For a time, I made CD covers for quite a lot of the bootlegs, until it got too many, the bootlegs belong now in the external hard drive.  And I hardly listen to any of them. It gives me a good feeling that I have them. :D

Really, a great collection that only few people can have in one place. These things are all matter of desire. And the more desire you have the more you are willing to obtain them. Having 20 different editions of each album might be a cool thing and a sign we are real fans, on the other hand,  to the outside world, it might be a sign of a psychological problem. I have received numerous looks and comments  from friends, for a much smaller DS/MK collection. Anyway, each one of us has many other interests in life. And since my interests in music, books, movies and photography are equally great, I have to limit my desires and my collections. But I completely understand the collectors, since I am one and I am grateful he is so open minded to create these videos for the rest of us. Maybe we should create a database (EXCEL or something plus photos) , each one of us with the things we have, so that we know what is out there and compile a definitive catalog.  I have made attempts but I am always falling behind.
Come on, it is not funny anymore.

Well vgonis that is a point that is easy for me because I have all of mine on a spreadsheet already!  I had one made years ago when we all traded by post (for obvious reasons) and just kept it updated) so now it has all my bootlegs on it.  What I don't do though is add those that are only on my HD as I always like to get them all onto CD at some point so I do have more than what is on my list.

I wish I had the methodical approach to collecting Mikel does.  Mine are all over the shop - in drawers, under my bed, CD rack, wardrobe, you name it!  I do amazingly know where they all are though.  :hmm

i got all my bootlegs in an excel sheet too, some 9500 lines of shows, mainly knopfler, floyd, dylan and guitar, but it is really a very varied collection.
one day i should do the same for my normal cd#s
any Knopfler, Floyd or Dylan will do....

I've never really collected interviews at all - just the music.  Mark says the same things all the time anyway so there's not much point!  To be honest there are a few things recently like the Phil Cunningham one and the John Illsley thing that were good and I liked the interview with Parky back in 2000 but radio interviews don't really interest me because we never get anything we don't already know.  I'll listen but won't collect.

No posters? (nor badges nor stickers for that matter??)
I am disappointed.

 :o :hmm :o :thumbsup
But seriously... you gotta be shiteing me. I've got no words for this. I mean I never imagined how it would look like... all this... lost for words... I considered myself a bit (or a bit more) crazy, but this...

I mean probably I have the biggest collection in my country (no big deal I guess), all the bootlegs I could download and a few I could trade some years ago. But the official stuff... Some years ago this guy's collection would look like heaven to me probably, but now, seeing this guy having 20+ versions of all the official releases, I see it a bit crazy. More than a bit. I'm not surprised he quit those 10 years ago.

Now I say, there is one important question: is my life for me (your life for you), or is it dedicated to MK?? Because I feel this is not what matters, focusing day and night for One man's work, downloading, listening, buying, collecting, writing and reading the forum... where does it end? I think "that's a dangerous course" when someone is occupying himself/herself with someone else's life rather than with his own... I used to be a bit like this guy, now I'm glad I have moved on.

Just my 0.02$

I don't think we should take time to analyse this.  All it is is a great collection of a dedicated fan and that's it.  Some people are collectors and some aren't, but we're all fans.  Personally I think it's great to see large collections like this that have taken many years and a lot of effort to develop.

I say each one with his own madness. I like his collection, probably given the time and money I would have gone there as well, yet my preferences are a bit different and I have other things that people consider a bit nutty. Each person has his own and I pretty much like his!  ;)

Thanks, it's always a pleasure to watch.
I'm a bit surprised to see that some items, not so rare, are missing in his collection (he probably has no interest in them)

Back in the day, I gathered a lot of Dylan "things" - releases, recordings, books, magazines, newspaper articles, posters and so on - but never really set out to collect anything and everything.  Some people still do  that but there are now so many "things" that it is diffcult, time-consuming and expensive.  Dmg has indicated that he has narrowed his MK collecting habit down a bit and that is admirable. If anyone should choose the "anything and everything" route, please be aware of the enormity of the task.  To give you some idea, maybe you would care to check out these Dylan sites:

OFFICIAL RELEASES (in all their variations):  http://www.searchingforagem.com/

ALL KNOWN RECORDINGShttp://www.bjorner.com/chronologies.htm

BOOKS AND "COVER" MAGAZINES: http://michel.pomarede.pagesperso-orange.fr/CW&C/

PHOTOS: http://dylanstubs.com/pictures/index.html

DAILY NEWShttp://www.expectingrain.com/

TOURS: http://www.boblinks.com/dates.html#0609

All of the above have multiple pages and these are just a very few of the sites devoted to Dylan. Just be aware of what you are letting yourself in for.

Now, I just pick up "stuff" as I come across and keep largely to the basics (important releases and publications) and try to update my collection of old newspaper and magazine cuttings (concentrating mainly on the 1960s and 1970s). In the old days, there was something slightly romantic about getting a newspaper from some far-flung part of the world, with all their local news as well as the Dylan piece. Nowadays, it is all electronic and more mundane.
