'Joe Bonamassa' thread
« on: January 22, 2014, 12:20:07 AM »
As you all might of guessed Joe Bonamassa is now officially my second favourite guitarist second only to the one and only MK, Therefore I have decided that as a lot on this forum seem interested too that I thought the idea of a JB thread was in order - that way we can discuss anything JB related without disturbing the main MK Threads...,

So lets have some serious JB chat, Tell us your favourite JB track?, Favourite studio album?, Favourite Live album and even favourite dvd/Blu-ray?

Have you like me seen JB Live? if so where and how was it for you?

Going to get the ball rolling...

I was first made aware of Joe Bonamassa on this forum when a thread linked JB saying how much he rated MK and listed him I think 5th favourite Strat player.

I then went out my way to listen to some of his material (Studio and Live) and to be honest I have not looked back. We both went to see Joe at Bournemouth on the second night of his tour last September (2013) and he was just amazing. There aren't many concerts where I go 'WOW' (except an MK Concert of course!) but that night sits high up there for me. Joe started with an acoustic set which was excellent before the opening few bars of 'Slow Train' pounded away and the electric set started and JB let rip!
Joe has so much energy and enthusiasm and you can just tell how much he and the band are enjoying it, let alone the audience.
To sum up: if you have never listened to JB - Then I suggest you do!

Thanks for this!

Maybe one of the editors could clear up the 2014 MK RECORDING DIARY thread and move the last few Bonnamassa posts to this one, because I indeed had the feeling that the last few pages where too much off topic... just a suggestion of course from someone who is not interested in Joe the slightest but respects the enthusiasm of course. But Guy's diary has not even begun and there are already seven or eight pages...  :wave

the firts Joe's recording I heard was Rockpalast, and I only have the black rock album

I like some tunes, but sometimes, it's a little bit too "technical" and fast for me. It sounds a little bit like Gary Moore, sometimes...

you know it seems like "I am going to show you how fast I can play", but it's not what blues is all about IMHO

for this kind of blues-rock style I prefer SRV or Derek Tuck, for examples

funny thing is that "JB" makes me think to "Jeff Beck", and Joe quoted lics from air blower in a song on rockpalast (can't remember which one)

Exactly LE,

The topic had long dissapeared therefore it was time to create an independant thread!

I created a new Thread for Marks 'New' album because it HAS begun and felt it would get lost if added to the original thread!

Yes I can agree that sometimes Joe does seem 'I'm gonna play fast just to show you' but I feel he has tidied up his licks as they are so much more melodic.

Try listening to the 'Newer' material and just realise how much he has matured.....

I downloaded the whole concert from the RAH 2009 and I enjoyed it to a point, but I still find his music extremely repetitive and I have yet to make it to the end of the concert before boredom sets in.  Maybe I have to try a bit harder, but he is a great guitarist, no doubt about it and I like his voice.   Sloe Gin is my favourite song, because it is a bit different to the rest, which all seems pretty much the same to me.

12-bar Blues lesson  :thumbsup

He seems to be a nice chap. But somehow his playing in the early records is a bit repetitive to me, although I have to admit that I don't have all his records by now. Oh, and his voice is a bit too smooth for my ears, maybe MK should invite him to the Mawson's from time to time.

I really do consider to see him live, when he is in my neck of the woods.
And she's sitting in her Lusso, in the early morning sun.

As the MK European Tour comes to an end now it is time to think of maybe something different in the meantime.

My second fave guitarist after MK is definately Joe Bonamassa.
He is just about to start a 3 Kings Tribute Tour through the US. In its most beautiful Amphitheatres.
After that he comes to Europe/UK.

He has just changed his Band completely
It is now:

Joe Bonamassa on Guitar and Vocals
Michael Rhodes on Bass ( he played several tunes on MKs Golden Heart Album)
Anton Fig on Drums (formerly Letterman Drummer)
Reese Wynans on keys (from Stevie Ray Vaughans Double Trouble)
Daniel Sadownick on percussion (Rock Candy Funk Party)

This Band is really a Burner. After MKs the best in the World
Joe is always changing his shows and setlists immensely. He is just a brilliant guitarist
I saw him in Oct 14 and March 15. Songs that were in both setlists: only 4    ;D ;D ;D

If you have some interest in really rockin Blues a la SRV or Gary Moore or Jeff Healey. Go - you will not be disappointed
He just finished his next Album in Nashville. Days of recording: 7

Have Fun and enjoy

Not my cup of tea, but now I can listen to him singing because his voice has improved a lot.
