Ive just spotted that 'The Straits' are playing a little theatre very close to home here in the UK in February, but alas I saw 'Dire Traits' a few years ago and they were absolutely awful and so that experience has put me off tribute acts. :disbelief
Sorry but to me Dire Straits without 'MK' is like Laurel without Hardy in my eyes.......

"Dire Traits!"  I like it. :lol

The name "Dire Traits" is kind of self-deprecating isn't it?  Maybe intentional.  At least they have a sense of humour.

As per 'Google' dictionary....

Dire: of a very poor quality
Trait: a distinguishing quality or characteristic, typically one belonging to a person.

Enough said really!!

The German band Dire Strats really are very good and I would go to see them.  They seem like good honest lads who have a genuine love for the music of Mark Knopfler just as we do and are very talented.  They sound better than The Straits to me and morally I wouldn't have any problems.

Thanks Jarle!    This is what I call a genuine tribute band.  They're not pretending to be something they're not.

Yes, I'm sure you're right, Knopflerfan, but nobody's going to be fooled by them, that's for sure!

I like that they have a woman for rhythm guitar! And the addition of sax and steel are nice touches! But if I was to pay to go see them, hmmmmm...
Come on, it is not funny anymore.

Don't let one bad experience put you off - there are good DS trib bands out there too - like mine ;-) Dire Streets.

We've had people at our gigs who have also seen The Straits and the consensus is we're just as good, and we don't pretend to be anything other than a trib band.

Shameless plug over ;-)
