I think we can assume that the new album has also alot of celtic influences. I really hoped for a more American Heartland sounding album, with country and bluegrass influences. My two favourite albums are On Every Street and Sailing To "Philly".. Would be nice if Jerry Douglas appears as guest on the album again. I absolutely love the sound of his weissenborn lapsteel and dobro.

Anyway, i think I am gonna check out the Transatlantic Sessions DVDs.

For the ones who are not familiar with Jerry Douglas check this out:

Alison Krauss & Union Station Live Louisville 2002

I also hope Mark will do a music project with banjoplayer Bela Fleck one day. (Stuart Duncan has Bela's phone number):

MK reads this for sure. Every name we would like him to play with goes to his black list and calls other people that have nothing to do with our desires...

Clapton: Marky, do you want me to play in your record?
Knopfler: Nah, thats what people wants, I will call Bruce Molsky
Clapton: Bruce who?
Knopfler: Exactly

Molsky seems to be in American  folk style Music more, so it might have a certain American flavour for sure.

How are you so sure? Think Mark isn't that interested in scrolling through forums tom read what the fans of his music think or hear the latest news about himself. I assume he'd be rather racing his wonderful Maserati, spending time with his lovely wife and keeping his company running properly. I have a strong feeling that Mark as employer feels very responsible for the people around him. You can make that up from his interviews and songs. He understands that people are in some way depended on him to get by financially. That the people have to make ends meet every month. And that he rather have as much people being part in the making other people happy business (entertaining industry) then in the making other people miserable business (militairy industry).

Besides that, Mark has his music "idols/inspirators" too. Hank Marvin, Chet Atkins, etc. I am sure that if Mark would know about Bela Fleck that he probably would be pleased to work with him. Or atleast interested. Personally i think they would connect very well musically as well as persons. For a musician it would be crazy to have a blacklist based on what fans would like. As a musician you need the skills of others too to get your music to a higher level and a new dimension. Mark is surrounded by the best of the best throughout the years. So why not Bela? I'm sure his sound and his strong melodic qualities would be very pleasant addition and variation to Mark his arrangements/songs. Mark knows like no other how important it is to change instruments and musicians. Or else every songs would start to sound about the same.

Yep, a slide guitar album featuring Sonny Landreth, Jerry Douglas, Derek Trucks, Bela Fleck, Paul Franklin etc. would be nicer, but hey we can't have everything in life, hey? But we can surely dream about it!   :D

On the other hand nothing wrong with musicians like McGoldrick...
