Hi,

I'm new on the forum from France

My Mk strat serial is #3411 (11/2006), for an unknown reason my MK had originaly a 57/62 pickups set !

I had a discussion with Guy Fletcher and Glen Sagers about my strat, Glen tried to find out why I didn't had a TS set.
We never had the answer...
Anyway now my strat got the "right" pickups set ;-)

Is there any Pensa ownerlist on the forum ? ;-)

Salut Nicobouds ! je n'ai pas de Strat ni de Pensa mais c'était juste pour te dire "Welcome" dans la communauté.
If I realised that the chances were slim,
How come I'm so surprised when the tide rolled in

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum.
I live in France, and last year I bought a used MK signature strat.
Serial number is: SE01607

I have an important question:
my MK strat weights a lot more than expected. Normally it should be around 3.1 kg, mine is 3.7 kg.
I dismantled it and took pictures because I had doubts it is an original body.

Here are the pictures attached. May someone let me know his/her thoughts?

thanks a lot

Looks OK to me. the sticker in the neck pickup cut out carries the same part number barcode as the sticker in mine.

When you point your finger 'cause your plan fell through you've got 3 more fingers pointing back at you.

Do you know, I've never felt the need to weigh my Strats, (although I did weigh my Les Paul once ;D)

I got the kitchen scales out & the MK strat weighs 3.35kg,  slightly less than my Mexican Classic 50's model which weighs around 3.38kg but more than my Fender Japan Standard which is only around 3.32 kg .

I know that the weight of Les Pauls vary considerably depending on the batch of wood used, so it's quite posible that the wood used by Fender, whether it is Ash, Alder or Basswood will also vary from body to body.

edit:(spelling)

thanks a lot

Dude, did they drill the holes in the neck pocket with a shotgun!? And all the paint in the pocket? Strange.

Yep, hence the reason why I'm a bit worried... There's no reason to have so many holes.

I'm assuming that only the  4 proper neck screws go all the way through ?  I haven't had the neck off mine so I can't compare but it's possible that a wooden "handle" was screwed into the neck pocket to hold the guitar when it was being sprayed. The luthier who built 2 of my guitars uses that method but I don't know if Fender does. It may have had a flaw in the original paint and needed re-spraying.
It seems a bit extreme to go as far as removing the labels from a genuine guitar to use on a fake, when that will reduce the value of the original the labels came off. Having said that, we know people have bought the guitars, taken them apart and sold the parts separately on-line ( but I can't see how they make a profit doing that knowing how much the guitars cost originally) .

Yes, only the 4 neck screws are drilled all way through.
I got feedback from Fender support confirming the body is original, but they don't understand what happened with the neck pocket....

Mine is definitely real and has extra holes too. Very strange. Some shoddy work underneath these great guitars actually, I showed mine to a luthier once and he shook his head at the overspray in the neck pocket.

I don't know if this is reassuring or not  ???
Thanks for sharing! I feel less alone now.
