On a side note, I'm pretty sure it was Crosby who picked MK's Brothers In Arms as one of his 'Tracks Of My Years' songs on the Radio 2 Ken Bruce show a few years back too..

Gotta love a tenuous link  :P
You can search all the MK/DS songs chosen here.

Nice one, thanks :D

That link is just for the Desert Island Disc series and not The Tracks Of My years that I was talking about but thanks as there are some excellent choices on there. It's interesting to see all these picks and for what ever reasons they were chosen. This leads me onto something that I never knew. The Lynda La Plant one from 1994 has her choosing Brothers In Arms and she goes on to say that it was written by her very dear friend Mark Knopfler and that she was currently working on a musical with him. Wow, that obviously never happened but I wonder why and if any of you folks had any more info. A musical by Knopfler could have been pretty superb and I'd never heard a single thing about that.

Sorry Fordie Im an idiot for not reading your post properly. But I do remember reading an interview with Lynda all those years ago when she was massive with the Prime Suspect series and she said about writing a musical with MK.

Never knew that either, but then I'm not a fan of la Plante, Prime Suspect or musicals.  Very interesting to know though because I didn't think it would be up MK's street.  I take it that would be early-mid 90s, just prior to GH?

Yes I remember it being back then when you never heard anything about MK and I can remember feeling dissapointed reading it. I wanted a Dire Straits album not a bloody musical.

It was mentioned in a few interviews around then - maybe the Record Collector one?

I remember MK saying something like "you have to be very careful with these things - there can't be a legwarmer in sight."
"You can't polish a doo-doo" - Mark Knopfler

"Best part was seeing Knopfler and Gilmour playing together....
Watch this space as you may soon see them both playing together ..Mums the word now!!!"

Response from a You tube user to seeing an old French & Saunders video we have on AMIT TV. He may know something that we don't?  ???  :o
