JF,
Just going to put my tuppence worth in....

Not sure Im agreeing with the songs/tunes sound the same quote, personally there are a couple that are closely related but in general the range of genres MK offers make him unique and rated! Now if you want to compare to an artist whose songs siynd the same and that has to be joe bonamassa who we saw live a few weeks ago and I ended up yawning. MK for me anyday.....

I know what you mean

some artists tend to compose songs even more closer than others, and of course in blues-rock, you have quickly ended with the 3 chords pattern, so I agree that artists like Bonamassa and mostly all blues players sound (almost) always the same.

I agree when you say that MK offers a range of more genres than Bonamassa, BUT in each genre (irish, blues, ballad) all songs have (too) many things in common.

and the paradox is that in late 70ies and early 80ies, when Mark offered less range of genres ( there wasn't pure blues tunes, irish tunes, etc...) I find that his music offered more diversity.

You can say that e.g. the first album is mainly in only ONE style : country-blues-laid-back or whatever you neme it. But I find more diversity in it than in his latest work where you have irish, rock, blues, balads, or whatever.

I think that the "amount of diversity" is not necessarily in the quantity of genres, it's more in the ideas you bring, the different feeling you give to the song, etc...

well sorry, difficult to expalin in my non-native language  :-[

QUOTE:  Don't really understand this comment.  If you preciously loved DS but have "moved on" and now prefer MK solo music, then when was the cut-off point?  I mean it's the same man behind the songs, so does this mean you don't like the early MK solo albums any more too?  What's in a name? :)

P.S.  You also got your figures mixed up because DS wasn't formed when you were that age. :hmm" UNQUOTE

Well, of course, I still love DS songs, but I prefer listening to MK solo these days.  There was no cut-off point - it just gradually happened when I realised I was listening to and enjoying the solo material much more than DS, probably because of being able to attend so many solo concerts.  Seeing MK live is something very special and that brings the songs to life, including the few DS songs that remain.  Also I prefer Mark's voice these days and also many of his lyrics.

I could ask you the same question.  In your words - "It's the same man behind the songs" and "What's in a name?"   So, why do you prefer DS to MK solo, which you clearly do?

PS -  You think I'm THAT old?       :hmm    :o     ;)

After all like Sean Connery and good wine, some people look and get better with age. But Dusty you are probably fishing for compliments.  ;)
Come on, it is not funny anymore.

Baby girls, you're both lucky ;)  They are much quieter than boys.  You can do a few more shows before Mummy says that's enough.   ;)

My mum always told me the opposite, she has 2 girls (I am one of them), her sister has 3 boys. My mum said: you can better have 3 boys than 2 girls ;-)
