I didn't find the time to further discussion since my last post, and I read lot of comments I want to reply, so I apologize in advance for the long post.
I'm going to try to put it in a comprehensive way, but forgive me if it seems a little bit confused.
and sorry for my poor English which doesn't allow me to explain exactly what I mean, but I hope you'll get the whole idea.

I find rating MK at the same level/range than Mozart, Rembrandt is a little bit exaggerated / overrated IMHO.
As I said many times before, MK/DS music is my favorite one, It's the one I like the most, I enjoy the most to listen. But it's not the one I would rate as the "best" .

To illustrate this statement, some months ago, we took the car for a little family journey. The Privateering CD was already in the player, I tuned it on, and it was on the song "haul away".

After 3 seconds, my wife said "oh no, always this same "rengaine" for all these years..."
she had never heard the album/song, and his first impression was (like for all albums in the past) : "the same music/melody for ages, no surprise, boring, etc...

although I love the song, I enjoy very much listen to it, I must admit, that I didn't find any argument to convince her about the "musical quality" of the song. Indeed she is right : many songs sounds the same, and can sound "boring". Even fans here on AMIT admit that they have to listen several times to start to get an interest in some songs...
and of course, my wife isn't the only example of this reaction. many friends feel the same when I make them listen to solo work : they mime they're going to sleep....
exactly what dmg and vgonis said.

So I don't think it's only a matter of radio airing his songs or not, it's also the fact that his songs are not really....well how can I say ? i guess you understand

since decades, mark's music is "quiet" "still" "untroubled", "p

I didn't mean that MK was on the same level as Mozart, etc but that he has a certain style that is immediately recognisable, just as they have.   ;)

Definitely not the same level  :disbelief
He is far better than Mozart (and of course the Beatles, Hendrix, Picasso...)  ;D
Problem with Mark is he is now in Dylan mode : any of his songs is either pure genius or a disaster.  :think

The thing I find particularly interesting is that there is a group of DS fans who are around the same age - 37/38 and that is the age I began listening to DS, so I feel I have been there and done all that - got the T-shirt, etc and now I have moved on and have become an MK fan!  Still enjoy listening to a few DS songs though!  :)

I agree with LE when he says he isn't a musical expert to judge Mark's songs.

Ambiguous...  ;D ;D no, just kidding, your line is fine with me... I am 42 by the way. Just saying. Everybody says how old he is today.

For those brave enough to reveal their personnal info during registration, the Calendar of AMIT, shows both birthdays and age! It is just a bit easier to write it!  ;D
jbaent congrats for your baby daughter! Parenthood is a wonderful mystery. Like MK's solo works it seems.  ;)
Come on, it is not funny anymore.

JF,
Just going to put my tuppence worth in....

Not sure Im agreeing with the songs/tunes sound the same quote, personally there are a couple that are closely related but in general the range of genres MK offers make him unique and rated! Now if you want to compare to an artist whose songs siynd the same and that has to be joe bonamassa who we saw live a few weeks ago and I ended up yawning. MK for me anyday.....

Im guilty of that too, but I started listening to DS at 15 and got to see them twice. Lucky me.

sorry LE, my sentence didn't have any 2nd or 3rd degree, I just wanted to say that I feel exactly like you  :)
I never tend to mean I was a musical expert, because I'm not  :) so I just wanted to say that your line was perfect to quote what I meant

and I am also 42  ;) ;) ;)

a little bit too much threads at the same time these days, it's hard to follow all discussions and to be sure if everybody read your replies on other threads   ::)

Don't really understand this comment.  If you preciously loved DS but have "moved on" and now prefer MK solo music, then when was the cut-off point?  I mean it's the same man behind the songs, so does this mean you don't like the early MK solo albums any more too?  What's in a name? :)

P.S.  You also got your figures mixed up because DS wasn't formed when you were that age. :hmm
