I really think that Mark would not tour if it wouldn't be financially profitable.

Privateering tour without Greece, Ireland and Portugal is a clear answer.

I'd recommend a slightly different approach to the question of profitability. If we consider MK as a company with different profit centers, I'd guess that there is

- the studio, that needed a lot of initial investment
- the heritage, by this I do mean the rights and income out of the DS and MK back catalogue
- the prospect of upcoming albums
- touring

In the end though, some of the best consultants are paid to deal with his businesses. He even said recently, that the studio is doing well, according to his accountants.

All this aside, I'm happy that he still sells enough tickets to fill even the big venues. More than that, it's good news that he's always writing, loves recording as well as touring and found his way into a healthy lifestyle.
And she's sitting in her Lusso, in the early morning sun.

True, although it seemed a little risky to put up a thing like British Grove in times when recording studios went down the drain one by one...

MK also had a back injury in 2010, but managed to carry on with the tour!    Clapton's music is too boring for me these days - his last few albums have been pretty dismal and I have stopped buying them now.   MK is running rings around EC regarding albums at the moment!   ;)

Craptons music has ALWAYS been boring!
MK = Master EC = Boy: Fact!!
* Mark Knopfler - NOT just a hobby, but a way of life!

* Owner of Two Fender 'Mark Knopfler' Signature Series Stratocaster's (SE00616 & SE03805) both with signed Fender labels after meeting MK at Bridport, Dorset UK on the 27/09/2013!

I also think that if they cancelled Russian gigs'  it's not ONLY because of what they let us know... Maybe they couldn't sell enought tix?

I don't think so.

I wouldn't see Mark behave like this just to hide poor selling tix. There are many other technical excuses that could be used in poor sales case.

Regarding the recent open tribunes from Mark this is to me clearly a protest decision.

Totally agree. Why a new statement almost a year later when it was only windowdressing?

I think Mark, as much as many other artist, have a fixed cache. The promoters are the ones that wins or loose on every gig, depending on sales.
