Official versions of songs by Dire Straits / Mark Knopfler

Example for MFN or Sultans, I heard many times on radio edit versions which were different from the single edit versions, because radio sound engineers make their own edits in order to fit their broadcast schedule. So sometimes you hear a verse, sometimes you don't hear it, just because there's a longer ad just after... is it a "different" version for you ? 

Nope, that way it isn't official It's ben made by people for their own ("fan-made"), it is only included here when it's released on official format (CD-single, LP, whatever it takes)

- what is the "alternate version" ? a take used on the film ?

Going home : a video clip exists (features on the VHS dire straits - the videos) don't know if it's relevant for your list

i've never listened to the screenplaying comp. Are the versions exactly the sames as on albums, or different edit/mixs or different takes ?

Good points, the version on the STP single will be added but are you sure it was Wild Theme? I only find Going Home on the internet, but I don't have the single to check. Do you have the recording date? Montserrat was played, but not to be included here, no official release.
Alternate Version is from screenplaying I believe, it's this version: (please judge me if I'm not allowed to post it here).

The video version of Going Home is only relevant when it has different mixing/editing, I'll check it out soon.

In my opinion, demo versions are not official, they are not released in any official cd, lp or single, maxi, but bootlegs, which are unofficial, so unless they were released, as Solid Rock on "ridin high" soundtrack, they must be removed from this lists.

Dear jbaent, we should not stick with such things. The versions are officially by DS but not officially released. So to the letter, the title is not incorrect, but could be taken that way. Your knowledge and input is vast and can be extremely useful.

1) to my knowledge, The video version of Going Home has NOTdifferent mixing/editing, so it's not relevant
2) if you want to list differences between video and audio versions, the you have to add TOL from alchemy video, because the "version" on audio LP, K7 and CD was edited during the intro (Mark's words about spanish city)
3) Yes it's Wild theme on the STP maxi, although it's labelled "going home" on the booklet. In fact, to be accurate, it's a mix between the Going home intro and wild theme, but in the same way it's played since the OES tour, so i think we can call it "wild theme"
4) the booklet says : recorded for taratata, italy november 2000, but I have some doubts because oneverybootleg doesn't list any promo in italy :
the only going home versions are from France, Spain or Portugal

I cant help if we are not following a concrete rule, or if we are breaking it when we want.

I can stick just to two demos here, Sultans, released oficially on the Honky Tonk official compilation, and Solid rock demo released on Ridin' high soundtrack.
If we are considering the rest of demos, none of them oficially released, then there is no sense in doing a list of song oficially released including songs that are not oficially released, non sense to me, so count me out on this, and enjoy doing this kind of list.

I agree with Jbaent, and I already said that I don't see the point to make such a list, but as I am almost mad about details, I have fun to help Hugo in doing "his" list
