I changed my mind about it during this tour and I think it is one of the best songs of this tour. Together with Seattle which I newly fell in love with last Tuesday(the song, not Ruth, although...). Seatte is such a beauty, lyrics, melody, mood. Really one of Mark's greatest...

On the album, Kingdom of Gold is boring, I agree. Same for Yon Two Crows, can't get used to the album version, but like the few live versions we have.

I love that Loreena McKennitt kind of Celtic song, it grabbed me from the beginning, and live, it became even better because of the outro solo, you're absolutely right about that.

Yes, KOG and YTC are much better played live. More guitar based.
The same for Border Reiver and Piper To The End  :)

Another thing is all that flute.........It's fantastic in songs like Marbletown and Paraguay  :)
But I'm not happy for it in songs like What It Is and Why Aye Man  :(

LE, I'm with you on this. 'Kingdom of gold' and also 'yon two crows' are very bland on the album and I think lack the guitar at the end which is so good Live. I would gladly love to hear them again. I dont find anything of MK 'Boring' as the songs/lyrics & music are far too powerful I think that MK playing them Live brings them to life!! Anyway this is my last post for a week as we are off ot our holiday home!!
Good to have met you LE and will email some photo's to you on my return...

Actually prefer PFP without the flutes and liked it with just the 'Strat' sound but then I would wouldn't I!!!

I like KOG and YTC both on album, and live
I love the dramatic background vocals on the KOG studio version

the lack of guitar in a song is not neccesarily a bad point IMHO

for example I like more fish and the bird (which doesn't have much guitar)  then Do america (which have riff + solos + lap steel)
