By the way: what does Guy mean, when he says: "We had a special show for many reasons"?
Does he mean Ruth's wonderful presence during the three songs, to which she beautifully sang backing vocals (Emmylou, watch out!), or would he hint at the audience, I mean the people that started cheering and whistling BEFORE the songs were finished? (As in the quiet parts in Marbletown,  RAJ, and, and...) or does it happen more often, that people in the audience start applauding when Mike and Glenn start to play there "duet"?

Also, it seemed to me that MK looked a bit surprised at the end of one song (can't remember which one), when the applauding was so loud that the band had to "wait" a few seconds to play the final chord. Did anyone else notice this?

As everybody is earmonitored on stage and that you get dedicated front row PA mix, a MK concert from front row now is always a good choice.
To get better than this then you have to rely on gambling adequation between the general PA, both for mix and loudness level, and the acoustic of the venue.
Antic Theatre with natural execptionnal acoustic can be the venues to get farer seat and enjoy perfection.

Marbletown is the new TOL
a little bit exaggerated IMHO

Marbletown is  a folk-bluegrass jam, without a doubt fun to play for 2 or 3 band members, (maybe) fun to listen to some extend, but certainly not an elaborated piece of prog-rock like Tunnel of love was, mainly during the BIA tour.

Marbletown is "just" musicians jamming over (almost) the same chord.
TOL is a sophistically (even not as such sa TR) piece of music, a very well constructed structure iwth intro/verse/chorus/bridge, etc...
so to me it's not comparable

I like jamming, no problem with that, but it's not the same as a song composed in an extended way
Even if TOL was extended live, it was already a long piece in studio. It's not the case for Marbletown.

Sure, Marbletown is "extende stuff" in term of song duration, but not in the same way as TOL or TR are, or as OUATITW, WWE, Sultans, were "extended" in the 80ies.

It's like if you would say that Bohemian Rhapsody, Stairway to heaven, close to the edge, tubular bells or Supper's ready are "extended stuff" just like voodoo chile, Red house, same old blues, or refried boogie (almost 40' !) by Canned heat

It happens more often that people start applauding during songs, not only in the Netherlands.

And yes I noticed it too, but can't remember when it was. He smiled when he noticed he couldn't start because the audience was still cheering really loud :)

I agree Herlock, Sultans as an ancore would be awesome instead of SFA  :)

100% agree.

Sultans should be played as an encore, or at least at the end of the show.

remember in early days, it was played at the end, not in the middle of the show like it is since the MM tour

I think that another surprise that Mark could do would be : not necessarily to change the songs, but to change the  songs order.
Imagine Sultans before Romeo.... and it has already been done : on Mandela ! so it's possible ! (and the best WOL version as an opener ! so all is possible !)

That was during Marbletown at the end. It happens at more shows. In Bremen was everybody applauding for a while after Sultans. MK had to wait before starting Gator Blood.

No, you must be wrong there because no one likes Sultans, no one misses it or would be bothered if he didn't play it.   ;)

I agree I exagerated a bit. By no means I would compare Marbletown to TOL: listening to Marbletown makes me in a good mood, but listening to TOL would almost give me a heart stroke :)
The only thing I meant is that Mark is not into extended things anymore, he does not rewrite the songs the was he used to, live he is much closer to studio than ever, so when we get, by exception, an extended song, we should be glad and not see with with contempt - that's all ! :)

Mark is not writing complicated songs any more - they are very simple things with just lyrics and the occasional nice little celtic melody (that all sound pretty similar and are done to death now).  Mark has said on several occasions himself that his songs are getting simpler.

He no longer writes long instrumental passages into his songs or between the lyrics on a regular basis and this suits him well for his live shows.

But in the meantime Mark on stage still like to develop or to link intro into another song such as F&S.

I guess the coniousness tells him make it short and simple while the inconsciousness tells him be Mark and do the things you are good at.

I beleive it was when he wanted to end Marbletown with those ending licks, it was fun to watch

Agreed for the most part (we have not seen anything comparable to TOL and TR in the solo career, even SAN is pretty simple compared to those), but they are exceptions: YTC is one of them, takes a long time to build with a bombastic finale (at least live), quite wonderful !
