I recall a picture of Dire Straits playing with the Talking Heads in that tour, its on two books released in Spain, but in both books the picture is folded between two pages...

Does any of you have that picture in his big size without being folded?

according to Ingo, this pic is from summer 79, talking heads "guest" on DS gig, not from the january 78 tour with DS as opening act for Talking heads

Yes, but the picture is incomplete, there are people at right (David and other guitar player) and at left (John and two other bassists) that are not in this pic, and you can see very clearly the folder line.

Right, that's definitely from summer 1979, both bands played at the British Rock Meeting festivals in Germany.

Six blade knife is played in the demo way, faster than the album version.

agree about wild west end : I've never heard it played this way before. mark is playing the rhythm part like on the album version (on the national). I wonder if he plays it on the telecaster in open tuning, or on the strat in standard tuning ?

In oldfield's book, there's some lines about the firts DS gig during summer 77, with Mark on the national on WWE, that means without solo parts.

so maybe, it was played this way until january 78 (it's not on the leeds recording), but after the album release, it was played live with david on rhythm (on telecaster) and mark on lead on srat.

And just like on the demo, the "I'd like to be free of it now" bridge in Six Blade knife appears twice (only once on the album version).

Wild West End was also the biggest surprise for me, that Mark played the rhythm part. Surprising because the demo version recorded a few weeks before was with lead guitar.
I am sure Mark played it in open tuning here, too, probably on the black Tele.
