It'd be nice to have him win this.  My fingers are crossed too.

And don't get your hopes up - Robbie has done fairly well in the past, as shown here:-

Yep indeed but MK is very popular over there as we know......

I'd be more inclined to worry about Springsteen, he's the cool kid apparently lol

Thank you for posting this link Fordie!

I also think that Bruce Springsteen has a good change!  :hmm.......But of course I keep my fingers crossed as well and hope that Mark will win!  ;D

Wow, that's going to be a difficult one.... why don't they just go and quickly set up a boy group together?  ;D

Yeah I always get the feeling that Springsteen can do no wrong, don't get me wrong, I think he's great but I honestly don't think his output is as good as Knopflers :)

don't get me wrong too, I far prefer Mark to Bruce, but I think that Bruce had bigger "impact" in rock history than Mark...

I have been to many, many more MK concerts than I have Springsteen concerts but I would also suggest that, in the wider world and in the longer term, Springsteen will be the one judged to have made the greater impact.

Though of a very similar age, Springsteen has had the longer career in the music business. Mark's initial success came with Dire Straits, a name that is possibly more prominent in the public conciousness than his own name; Springsteen has been through several "career iterations", as it were, but the Springsteen name has always been to the fore.  I could go on.

It is neither here nor there what you or I think of the relative merits, qualities, skills and/or abilities of the two of them. An objective outsider, IMHO, would judge Springsteen's impact to have been, and to be, the greater.

Have I missed something or is not this award for the last year rather than a lifetime achievement. So it could be anyones surely. Apart from Robbie Williams.

If it is the case, yes

I was commenting more on the question of "overall impact on the world at large" than the Echo award. I should have included the word "also" in my first sentence and have now modified it accordingly.

I have gained much more enjoyment from MK than BS over the years, but, as I said, my response to their music is neither here nor there.

In respect of Springsteen, I have attended only two shows (one on the solo Tom Joad" tour and one on the "Seeger Sessions" tour - and I enjoyed the latter more) and have only gone out of my way to obtain one Springsteen album on CD (namely "Nebraska"). I guess that's fairly consistent in terms of my general musical tastes, though I also quite liked "The Wild, the Innocent and the E-Street Shuffle"

Oh no, I really do not want to choose...... LOL!
I love Mark and Bruce, each for different reasons. This is a tough choice.....
Lol! At least for me it would be.
