Amazing, awesome portrait! I wonder HOW the artist could paint the picture which was supposed to be so big. It's bloody difficult I guess. I love the colours, these wide brushstrokes and the Mark's eyes being so natural. I can't realize how this portrait looks when you're watching at it staying as close as Mark does on the photo. It's incredibly finely performed. And the age is not the point this piece of art is about.  It's a painting, not a photograph after all. Staring at this on my wide screen right now and can't stop admiring it. Marvellous.
A security guard said it was total foolishness on our part to attend the show in the rain. We laughed and said we were indeed the most foolish folks in the world. --Tee, JTO

It's the redness in the lower lids that make his eyes look old.     I like the sketch better.

Just looked at Davidson's facebook page.   Tremendous brush technique.   But all his subjects, including MK, are so somber.    Not even a little grin?    If I were rich enough to have him do a portrait of my husband, I would want it to be happy.

IrisRose I agree with you about having a happy portrait, there are enough pictures where you can see Mark smiling! However I assume that Mark choose a picture where he is not smiling!  :lol

BUT having said that,  I like this portrait also because this is Mark as well! We see a picture from nearby, but just like with many
famous painters like Rembrandt and Vincent van Gogh you should see it in real. Standing in the gallery with the right light and distance,
then I am sure many of you would like this painting too even when he looks a bit older. ;)

Btw I wouldn't complain if Mark wants me to have this painting in my living room. .....Although I am not sure if my husband would agree with that!

If you are good to other people, most of them are good to you too!
