Ok Last thing lol..... we had nothing to worry about with Ian Thomas, He's incredible

Might be. But doesn't fit the job well in my opinion, except on some very few songs, SL being one of them indeed

Great series of videos, not only great sounding but really filmed well with some spot-on zooming and good picture quality. Good equipment obviously.

Do we know who has done it?

Ian Thomas is stunning....imo superior to Danny and adds more power and drive to the rythym section

    • Blog about music
There's nothing remarkable about negative comments - it's called reception. AMIT assembles a lot of people that are deep into MK's music, some of them for years or decades - they follow him from album to album and from tour to tour - which allows them to have a more differentiated view then let's say an experienced journalist who has a pile of new records to listen to and writes a few quick lines about Privateering after the first listen.

If Privateering evokes not only positive but also negative comments, then it's okay and even precious - we are not here to pray to the one and only God MK, even if it seems so lately, referring to some (new) posters since a few weeks.

Of course you can say this: MK can sit on a chair and read the phone book, and I will fall on my knees and tell everyone how genius he is. But then we are not any different to let's say,... Justin Bieber fans.

Differentiated view must be allowed. And if you tally all posts since release, I think it is not too bad after all. For me, there's a lot to like and some minor that I don't like. As it is such a long record, there is more working surface. Nice!  :thumbsup I might point out that this is a positive view!

My current list:

SAILING TO PHILADLPHIA, THE RAGPICKER'S DREAM, both masterpieces, same league
GET LUCKY, best album feel in general, not a single bad song
SHANGRI-LA, rich, great lyrics, wide spectrum, good and warm feeling overall
PRIVATEERING, still growing, but some "mistakes" in approaching the material imho, phantastic soundwise of course
GOLDEN HEART and KILL TO GET CRIMSON not really bad, but compared to the other masterpieces a little weaker in my opinion

LE

last days I tried to listen to albums "in pairs"
My english is not very good, so I have more focused on the overal sound /music /mood /production, rather than lyrics, but I found that these "pairs" of album fit very well :

SAILING TO PHILADLPHIA / SHANGRI-LA : "clear" sound, aerian, atmospheric, etheral

THE RAGPICKER'S DREAM / KILL TO GET CRIMSON : acoustic, intimist, quiet, nostalgic

GOLDEN HEART / GET LUCKY : lot of LP with celtic sounds

PRIVATEERING disc 1 / PRIVATEERING disc 2  ;D

for DS :
album one / Communique : obviously.... ;)
making movies /love over gold : well not the smae style, but you can hear the links, and the "natural" progression in Marks' composing/production/writing
BIA / OES :again not the same style, but a little bit same "sound production" in the 80-early90 style

of course : NHB / neck and neck

as for ATTR (which I love) : I'd put it with STP and SL

sweetsurrender, as mentioned in the other thread, pls do mention in your uploads that you converted the original (?) file from mp3 to flac. it is important that this is listed, otherwise someone will share your version somewhere without that info and the "gene" pool becomes diluted.
just an "info" thing.
any Knopfler, Floyd or Dylan will do....

I have to say that I like the Sweetsurrender recordings even they dont sound so good than Soomlos or other tapers...

And I like them because they sound so real, so like we were there, with the venue acoustics echo and distorsion... I felt like I was there with that sound.

Love it!!!!

Thanks Sweetsurrender  :clap

Thanks, jbaent.  I'm glad you enjoy the recordings. I've been listening to them since.

I have a question regarding files to be uploaded to the tracker.  The rules said no mp3. That's why I converted all the files into flac.  Now, people are telling me to keep the files in mp3.  I'm a little bit confused. Could somebody clarify this for future uploads?

I seemed not to be able to get to MKlive website.  Anyone with a link?

Thanks,

As mentioned, as long as there's no other source, then there is no harm in uploading mp3 sourced files, but it needs to be mentioned so no one can later unknowingly share lossy files whilst claiming they are lossless. Hence it is better to simply keep them as is and explain it In the info file.
