Maybe it's time for Mark to step out a little.

What do you mean exactly?

Be less predictable I guess.Play other songs, say a new joke or two, be more playful with the audience etc. The fact that we are get- a -life fans, doesn't mean that we should like everything, just because it is done by our man. Of course we can not,  should not and will not demand anything but discussing and suggesting some things can not harm.  ;D By the way Bob does these things, but still can't stand his voice live, and I surely wouldn't pay only for the jokes ;) But from what I hear, MK is really changing, and touring, all the time like BD, so he might take some of the other habits as well.  :think
Come on, it is not funny anymore.

"Step out a little"?  Vgonis has it right.

As I've said before, MK is a much more predictable performer than BD. Night after night, MK produces a very high standard of performance and that's great.  I like the fact that he gives the band members space and proper acknowledgment and I like the fact that he generally seems to be enjoying himself on stage.

On the other hand (and I may be completely wrong when I say this), he also seems to be working within his comfort zone. If you go to see him several times on one tour (as many of you do), you pretty much know what you're going to get from night to night. You might get the odd song different from a previous night and you might get a slightly different arrangment or a slightly different solo but it will all be within a fairly narrow band of expectation. Everone seems so well drilled.

Now I'm not saying that MK should become "another BD" in style, approach or whatever (God forbid!), because I want Mark to be his own person but I would like to feel that he's trying different things - live, on-stage and before our very eyes - things that are spontaneous. The band are terrific players but they all know what to expect next. The whole performance has been worked out beforehand, in the privacy of the rehearsal hall or whatever, and, with almost no variation, that is what we get to hear from the stage each night on a tour.

So, I am not advocating wholesale change but a wider choice of songs and a bit more spontaneity.

Knoxville sounds great! Is he also changing the lyrics?
A pity that we don't have any imagery of Mark and the band

As this writer says [ http://www.gigcity.ca/2012/10/05/keep-it-weird-bob-we-love-you-for-it/ ], if you follow the twists and turns of Bob Dylan's life and/or career, you're in for a pretty bumpy ride.

I just wish Mark would throw us a few curve balls. Maybe he thinks his fan base couldn't cope. If so, I disagree. OK, a few might fall by the wayside but, IMHO, more would respond favourably and he'd likely pull more into the fold.

P.S.  Sorry for all the mixed metaphors but sometimes it's easier just to trot out the clich

Thanks for enlighten me/answering my querie, it was just that I could not work out what the "step out" was related to. After all, twm, you wrote it  because Bob obviously changed Blowing In The Wind - which he does all the time, as he always changes everything all the time - which is something that Mark probably hates because the stuff would be in danger to loose his character in his eyes/ears... The pure fact that MK decided to tour with Bob two times within a year alone shows that he is able to "step out"...

"Step out" is an example of a phrasal verb, I believe.  We have a lot of them in English and some of them can be very confusing for non-native speakers,  particularly those phrasal verbs that have more than one meaning depending on the context. "Step out" has more than one meaning/usage These are the ones I can think of but this may not be complete:-

(1) to take longer strides while at walking,
(2) to leave a room or building (sometimes for a very short time)
(3) to lead a fuller social life, often to do something that you haven't done at all before or haven't done very often before
(4) to take a step forward (usually from a line, queue or group of people)
(5) to do something different.

Those are not terribly good definitions but I think you have already got the sense of what I meant.

Phrasal verbs are a heaven of rhymes and multiple meanings for musicians and poets!
The most common use in the past 20-30 years of step out, is related to the word closet.
Come on, it is not funny anymore.
