Initially, I intended to buy the album and as I already liked Heidi singing "Bedlam Boys" on a live album, I thought this would appeal to me too, but after hearing a few tracks, her voice just irritated me. I find it just too high and rather piercing for my taste. I think the songs are very nice though and I agree I can't hear MK's guitar anywhere.
I agree it's really too high. Emmylou Harris style.
Clearly not an album for many of us.
It doesn't matter, we'll have some more very soon.
And it's good to see they all have fun playing together.
Together is not what I should say...
It looks pretty clear, by the McCusker comments, that most of the record was recorded by pieces, MK recorded his part, Jerry Douglas his parts, if you remember during the Dylan 2012 tour, Richard Bennett, Michael McGoldrick and Guy recorded some parts in a laptop in the hotel room. Then McCusker compiled everything and mixed, so they didnt see each other for the record...
Not my ideal of how to make a colaboration, but MK is used to that, he did his parts for the Tony Joe White, B.B King, Sonny Landreth, America and many more recording his overdubbs in London and send them to the producers so they can mix it.
