Speaking of drummers, I still have a soft spot for Pick. Then again, I'm a great fan of the early DS stuff. Pick plays with the Gary Fletcher Band, and he sounds great. There's a clip somewhere of a tour diary with the GFB, and in the middle of it, Pick has a drum solo. Blew me away. I'll see if I can find it.

I still have the theory (all made for myself) that it might have to do with touring in general. Maybe this big scale world wide touring (as started in that year 2005) was too big for him - even three or four months Europe might not suited him anymore. I think it is not necessarily a rule that every muso has that traveling bone or nomad blood with him. Maybe he is more of a family man. With Neil Young, he can stay at the US at least.

Over the last 10 years, MK had a very tight touring schedule, I really wonder what Guy and Richard and Glen really think about doing another great album, but touring with Bob again in the US  instead of promoting the new album, which follows NEXT year - god bless him, they may think, but also, Jesus, where does this guy take the energy from? I already feel exhausted just THINKING about a US tour...

Ah, I don't think it's that exhausting. Wake up, have a hearty breakfast, go for a walk in the city, have lunch, post some notes from the road, spend some time golfing, soundcheck, play 70 minutes of music, have a drink, go to bed. Come on, not much to complain about here! And just look at Bob Dylan, who is touring constantly. He's not exactly an athlete, is he? If he can do it, Guy or Richard should be able to do it, too.

Besides, the way Mark et al are touring is on a level most musicians only can dream about. Mostly top hotels, private jetting from city to city, the best equipment, top class musicians to play with, etc. I'd trade my day job any day. The only downside to touring in general is of course being away from home.

Jules: glad you like those chords at the end of Romeo and Juliet, and yes, it is very clever how they change the key from F and end the song in the key of E. But Mark didn't write them; I did...

I had no idea Alan had invented E and F... does anyone know where Eb came from ?
Seriously, modulating a song by a semi-tone... it's a shame Al can't just accept he's an exceptional musician without
pretending he wrote DS songs.

I know what you all mean by that luxury factor, but still: Touring IS exhausting. I am sure. Living with a tight time schedule, depending on so many things, and DOING AN EXTRAORDINARY GOOD JOB EVERY SINGLE NIGHT AS THE AUDIENCE EXPECT IT FROM YOU BECAUSE THEY PAID FOR IT is not something I would like to do for four months in a row. Not that I would reject the earnings for it...

I think if they started to find it too tiring they would take a day off between every show instead of doing around four shows before a day off, sometimes more.  They say the travelling is the most tiring aspect.

From Dollars and Euros...

They are proffesional musicians, MK ask them to go on tour on october / november and they accept, and they get paid for it, because thats what they are, proffesional musicians.

Some proffesional musicians doesnt like to go on tour and preffer to accept contracts for recordings in studios, some like the touring thing. Its not like they are emerging stars hiting the road, they get pay for it, so if Mk ask them to go on tour and they dont have any recording petition yet, or they have it but doesnt worth the money, they say yes.

I recall that on the 2003 cancelled tour, Glenn Worf and Chad Cromwell were not available due other prior commitments or better paid contracts (who knows), so MK hired Marcus Cliffe and Danny Cummings.

Dollars and Euros, thats the energy.

I know of course. I have no idea about the state of the US music industry, it is probably bad (as everything these days), but I could imagine that musicians from the calibre of Glen Worf or Richard Bennett can CHOOSE if they want to do some more studio work, just stay at home or go on another extended tour with MK... Two months this autumn, and from April to July next year, well that is something... They are not the youngest anymore you know...
