I don't in any way endorse what Alan is saying. Some of the things he's been saying come across as exceedingly cocky, for instance this on his website, a reply to an email that he posted:
Jules: glad you like those chords at the end of Romeo and Juliet, and yes, it is very clever how they change the key from F and end the song in the key of E. But Mark didn't write them; I did. That arrangement of the song is mine too.
Obviously Jules thought Mark was the brain behind that arrangement and that it was very clever. Clearly Alan was the arranger (if we take him at his word), but I think there are slightly more subtle ways of getting the message across!
I've listened to quite a few of the The Straits clips on YT, and to me it sounds as they don't get it grooving. At times, it even seems they don't keep the beat. So I don't know what's going on here.
