He don't play this classics for his beloved, die-hard fans but he can play for some rich business man. I'm disappointed :disbelief

As someone wrote in a song called River of Grog, "by day I sell them my soul"...

I can't agree to that. He let us know during several interviews in the last years that he looks at his Dire Straits hits as an important part of his (and his fans life), but that the solo stuff is more important to him. So you could also say he fobs those business men off with them oldies, but keeps the real interesting, new and fresh stuff for the "real" fans.

According to Guy, Nigel Hitchcock was there just for the Range Rover show...

A pitty as I can see him playing sax in many of the blues songs instead the harp, and it will work for sure!

That would be good, and replacing Mike with Nigel could give some of the songs a new lease of life with a sax in them instead of the usual folky pipes and whistles which are getting a little monotonous now.

Maybe Nigel was playing with a view to possibly using him on the 2013 tour...

I wonder if playing the classics was a sine-qua-non condition for inviting him to the event

Never understood that line really. There is some more talk about fish and fry in another song of the album, isn't it?  ::)

They wanted to promote the Britishness of the car and thought that traditional/classic famous songs thought of as quintessentially British by a British band/artist would be ideal to promote this idea.

"Fish fry" = a place that sells fried fish, a small restaurant. So: For a little something, he'll play anywhere. Or if you look at the RR setlist: Anything.

I don't mind him playing a couple of Dire Straits hits, but it seems a bit sad to have a new, chart-topping album out and not play a single song from it. If they really should have said: Play this and this and this, and nothing else, he should have told them to go and shove their money (and car) up their ***. Nothing against Range Rovers, but that's how I see it.

We should wait for the set lists of the Secret gig(s). This RangeRover thing should not be overrated. I guess Mark has another modus when it comes to corporated gigs... it is just... for money. I still think that is says something (positive) about him that he plays "only old stuff" at a corporated gig...

Fish fries in the U.S. are popular - usually Friday events where a restaurant has a low cost "fish special" or a church or civic group sponsors one as a fund raiser.

Or negative depending on whether you would like to hear the old ones again or not.

It is also negative in that it dispels the belief that MK isn't interested in money and only in the music.
