Yes, actually Guy was answering my question I was so curious about this.
Sax on STP and aslo on WOL ?? never heard this before... what can possibily a sax add to WOL ? No that I care, I don't like the song, but still, I find this curious. Or Maybe is Nigel also playing flute/tambourin/I don't know what exotic instrument ?

I'm one of few that actually like Walk of life.

But sax on WOL!  :'(  :'(  :disbelief

It's got to the stage I'd rather have WOL than STP or SFA.  How bad is that! ;D

Best version of MFN ever was during the STP tour when he started the whole thing with the bluesy National bottleneck intro and Mike Henderson did a stunning part with bottleneck to his Silvertone.

That was absolutely stunning! And I'd love to hear that one again!
Yes this "calypso" intro was gorgeous.
But for the main song nothing can beat Montserrat...

the best one IMHO is Mandela with NO wah and EC' solo (broking a string)

Yes to MFN although I don't miss it too much. I still had fun with that one in 2005.

But definitve no no for WOL - can't stand it anymore unless EC join to add some blistering guitar licks.

+1

Mandela is the best WOL version IMHO

well... Mandela is almost best versions for all songs IMHO  ;D

I can tell you that blues ain't exactly played on oil drums regularly  ;)

My favourite versions of MFN were the pre-Steinberger versions from the BIA tour.  The back-to-basics thing, the freshness, the energy, nothing fancy or trying to over-elaborate.  Played the way it was supposed to be played with great sounding guitar and that 80s sound that is the signature of this song.  This is the way it was meant to be played and it was never bettered.

Wembley'85 was excellent, full of energy. Better than Live Aid with Sting... :)
But, nobody's gonna stand for Montserrat version with me ? so much energy and change in the sound...
You'll tell me there is no intro, but anyway I think they never got the intro quite right, other than on the studio version with remains hard to beat.

WOL may not be popular amongst the fans, but it sure is a LOT of fun to play rhythm guitar too.

Whether "the fans" like it or not, I'm sure WOL would be the most enjoyable one to the audience.
It's sure a great song if you don't wear it out. Fun to play as well.

There are songs that are not needed anymore in the setlist, WOL and MFN are two of them.
